goddamn, i only made it through to lines, boy george's voice is in horrible shape. just one more thing that made prince special, he kept on his chops all throughout the years. Most of his contemporaries really stopped working a long time ago.

Most of his contemporaries really stopped working a long time ago. It also helps that P didn't smoke. After he passed Sean Lennon tweeted that he quit smoking because P encouraged him to do so. But listening to those P&M shows I'm amazed at how good P's voice was; the high notes he could hit and how low he could go. A lot of artists lose that ability as they get older. Bon Jovi and Def Leppard don't sing a lot of their songs in the original key because Jon Bon Jovi and Joe Elliot can't hit the high notes anymore. I noticed this too when I first saw a footage of his last concert in Atlanta (which was very shortly after he passed away). It was both moving and mesmerizing. That voice quality really was quite something, like his body might have been frail but his soul was still giving 100%. Life Matters

People say P's guitar playing was underrated and it was but I'd argue his voice was too. I liked his voice better than Michael's. I think P had more range. Paisley Park is in your heart

This is one of those times I will pass completely on even clicking the link for fear that even seconds of this tribute could taint the song eternally for me. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

...and I would add his talent as a pianist too. Life Matters

Prince's catalog has so much more to offer than just Purple Rain.

Bobby Z was at the show. He produced Boy George's second solo album. Boy George said that Apollnoia told him that Prince really liked Karma Chameleon and would listen to it all the time. They dedicated that song to him. TRUE BLUE

Love that he tweeted-- "Wear or bring something purple tonight! @RealCultureClub at the Myth Club in Minnesota 'keep a little Prince in your heart!". I love their music, too, and they have many good songs besides Karma Chameleon. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Many artists have jumped on the Prince death tribute bandwagon, a lot to simply sell more tickets.....there is a very disengenuous side to a lot of these tributes that is being missed. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

I'm not sure which artists you are referring to, but Culture Club didn't say beforehand that they would be doing any Prince tribute. TRUE BLUE

You don't have any idea what You are talking about. They are genuine. On the day Prince died, Boy George tweeted "Today is the worst day ever. Prince R.I.P I am crying!"

Didn't prince like some of the old culture club tracks? I'm sure I read it in an interview years ago.

His voice sounds better than Axl Rose though.

I saw Boy George in an interview since Prince's passing and he said that someone in Prince's camp (think he did say who but I can't remember) told him back in the day that Prince was a fan of Karma Chameleon We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .

I agree. His voice was incredible throughout his career. He was not the classic singer (Whitney, George, Sam Smith despite Oscar performance) but I prefer his voice to them all. He could convey so much vulnerbility (e.g., Condition of the Heart), soulfuness and funk (about everything), and could take a hard edge for rock (you know the ones ).

Guitarhero said: I loved his words about Prince He made some lovely comments about Prince. And his version of PR wasn't that bad. But he also wasn't trying to "take us to church" with it. He just sang it short and sweet, said some nice things about P and that was it. Very sweet and genuine feeling imo. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

according to Susan Rogers, he was crazy about Karma Chameleon and once left the warehouse while he left it playing on repeat. Rogers thought that he may have done it just to get on her nerves. At any rate, Prince used to tell interviewers that he didn't listen to anyone else's music. I always thought that that could not have been true because his production style was contemporary enough to where it was obvious he listened to the sounds around him. Oddly, he never outgrew this sentiment, he said he never had time to listen to new music because he was always working on some himself. I never bought that for a second.

Haha that's true he did stick with that line! Another example of him listening to and appreciating his contemporaries is when he wrote that very sweet note to Suzanne Vega telling her how much he loved Luka. I can only imagine how amazing it was to receive such a note from P We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .

Thank you! I love that Prince was into Karma Chameleon like the rest of us haha. I remember as a kid getting so excited every time it came on the radio or on MTV. Also , I just saw your post about being at this show AND that you're going to see The Revolution! So cool! We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .
