Prince at Jones Beach, Wantagh NY 1997 With all of these live clips surfacing on Youtube, I'm surprised no one has uploaded this concert yet. From what I remember, the quality wasn't the best - but Prince made one of the best entrances I've ever seen at a concert. The band began playing "Jam of the year" and Prince sang half of the song but was nowhere to be seen onstage. Suddenly a spotlight shines on the bay showing prince arriving by boat. The rest of the concert was kind of lackluster - but that entrance Not A Newbie, Just Reinvented

Your thread title caught my interest because I thought you'd have a photo of P at the beach, like sunning himself or swimming. 🙂 And I've never heard of him at the beach! Has anyone else?

I have JOTY Philadelphia on VHS. I never converted it to digital, but maybe I should. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I live on Long Island in NY and was at that concert. It was a year or so before my marriage ended and times were awful. When I was a kid, The Jones Beach Theatre was the Guy Lombardo Theatre. Think a small outdoor Broadway level theater right on the water. Guy Lombardo was a local bandleader/celebrity who lived nearby the theater and was famous for "commuting" there from his home using his boat. Seeing P make his entrance to the venue that way warmed my heart. Up until then, I'd only seen P in concert outside of Long Island. It was nice seeing him perform right down the parkway from my childhood home. Unfortunately, it was during a very stressful time period with my ex and, despite being seated so close, I don't remember much about the concert itself. What I do remember is picking up the tickets at the theater box office with my brother in law and sitting in the car while he went into the building...and as my brother in law started walking towards the car, we heard P talking and music playing briefly over the PA system. We both looked at each other, squealed like 12 year old girls and sat in the car until we didn't hear P anymore. To this day, neither of us can tell you exact words or what music he was playing or how long it all lasted, but we still fangirl out when telling the story. Lol
