Art Official Age : Time to REALLY get to know Prince. Art Official Age (studio album released 9/30/14) has a song called "Clouds" that is very telling of the spiritual awakening Prince had.
Don't stop reading now... I've seen people try to make literal, "surface", physical sense of this song. Some even say it was a "foretelling" of his death. Nope. Not literally. It was a sign of his old self dying and a new self being born. It was an album about living. He was trying to tell us that this is what he wanted for us. Oh, he tried to tell us in so many ways. These lyrics from "Clouds" are most telling. A woman's voice says: "Mr. Nelson, Mr. Nelson, can you hear my voice? Sir, we know you're a little bit groggy And you're probably going to find it hard to speak But don't try to talk or process too much now We just want to let you know that the medication you were given Has put you in a suspended animation for quite some time Well, in fact, about 45 years But where you are now Is a place that doesn't require time That saying, you are completely safe And we are here to help you." The "medication you were given" is not pain medication (well, not physical pain medication); it's the emotional medication, or conditioning, we are all taught from an early age, the LIE, about how to feel, how to think, what to do, in order to feel better and be successful that Prince is talking about. It's the illusion we live in, the SPELL we are under that our parents, teachers and society taught us when we were little because they were taught it TOO when they were little - and they never broke out of it to get free. He wanted our generation to be free more than anything else and he used his music openly to get this message across to us. a cute girlfriend, a husband, money, approval, acceptance, power, getting people to like you, being right, even being "good" - is not what makes us truly happy. Some of those things can be the fruit, or result, of our spiritual evolvement, but our lives should be a journey where the Truth can be found. True Freedom. He wanted that for each of us and therefore eventually for the world at large. Remember him typing that long explanation on the other website about how from the first words you were taught, this illusion, this conditioning, began? That was one attempt he made to get this message across to us. He was hoping his fans would hear him. The "suspended animation" he was under for "45 years" was his conditioning, the illusion. As my spiritual teacher says, the illusion is a big trick! "Where you are now is a place that doesn't require time. That saying, you are completely safe": He didn't mean he was going to die physically; he meant the death of the illusion he had been under. Some of you know that there is no "time" when we're close to God or our True Selves; there's no past (depression) nor future worries...there's only the Present Moment. And as he says, he is totally safe and protected in each moment of life now (and it didn't matter what was going on around him). Other lyrics on this album tell the story too. I'd love to hear others' viewpoints about the man he became spiritually. He had so much more to do. He really was just beginning. He wanted us to be free in our minds. [Edited 7/23/16 3:01am]

I just thought he just finished watching 'Open Your Eyes' (as opposed to 'Vanilla Sky'). I don't know, he thought things that don't even cross my mind so okay. I'll roll.

No harm meant but Prince was taking painlillers for a long time. A lot of 'strange' things could have crossed his mind.

He was baptized in 2003 so that makes perfect sense. I never thought of those words in that light, but you could very well have a point. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

I just read a CNN article from last month (?) that mentioned his family reported a struggle he had with Percocet 20 yrs ago. Aaaanyway, Prince was quite clever lyrically. I love that about him. One thing I hope we learn more about in the future are the true meanings behind more songs' lyrics. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Anyone else think his body might have been frozen quickly after his death, as in put into suspended animation? Morbid thought I know but he did more or less talk about it in Clouds.

Maybe in that song he's just referencing the Matrix film, he was a fan of the film or perhaps he was interested in the theory that we are all living in a simulated world, there's lots of articles out there about this theory.
" In 2001, Nick Bostrom, a Swedish philosopher based at the University of Oxford, came up with a paper entitled “Are You Living In a Computer Simulation?“. He actually published it in 2003. The paper is in part inspired by ideas that developed in the science fiction, futurology and philosophy world, including post-humanism, “big world”, and terraforming. ”. It's interesting reading if you are a science fiction fan but personally I don't agree with this theory. [Edited 7/21/16 17:12pm] Baby, you're a star.

. No... unless there was no autopsy, because an autopsy is very invasive... organs removed, chest cavity cut wide open, etc. "He's a musician's musician..."

I find the 45 years 'in suspended animation' interesting and just a little spooky, if that's the right word. .
If you watch P's interview with Mel B, he says he started making music aged 12. And that from that point onwards, he kept making music in order to 'get to his destination' (which, in this interview, he implies is God / heaven). That, he says, would be the day he 'celebrates'.
. Now, I don't know about you, but it does seem like the most amazing bit of proleptic irony that if he started viewing or using music as his way of working towards his destination aged 12, and spent 45 years in a state of 'suspended animation' doing that, it takes us to his being aged 57...And then...
. Am I reaching? I don't know - but nobody can deny that Prince really DID seem to have some sort of second sight when it came to dates...(April 21st, anyone?) [Edited 7/22/16 14:14pm]

Dibblekins, good catch on the years. Could be. Often around age 12 is when we start seeking relief for the pains of life, for different reasons. That was the exact age I started. It's a really crucial age for kids.

Indeed... . It just seems remarkable that he talks about how he wanted to put music out non-stop, so he could reach that much-desired destination as quickly as possible. Certainly, he didn't seem to fear death, but be happy to embrace it. . Given that he released AOA towards the end of 2014, I can't help but wonder if, when he wrote 'Clouds', he already had an inkling that he was approaching his final destination (ie knew he was unwell, or at least not long for this world) - hence the 45 years... . As I say, I'm happy to admit this is all just speculation on my part - but, nobody can deny that P. was undoubtedly a 'Beautiful Strange' soul...

He could have written the song in 1987, lol - the date when it was written is irrelevant, really! My point, if there is one, is that he entered his state of 'suspended animation', aka ceaseless music-making, at the age of 12 - and it just seems ironic that it ended 45 years later, as per the song.
You're quite right - he may well not have had a clue about his demise on a conscious level...Subconsciously, however - well, who knows...There's a lot more to the power of the human mind than we can ever fully grasp. Certainly, I've heard tell of people who have foretold the age / dates / nature of their own passing (amongst other significant things) or at least had a vague sense of it - which they've shrugged off.

I think he was simply saying that he'd been "asleep" spiritually for 45 years when he wrote the song.

AoA, especially the back end, is incredibly haunting. Any remotely objective person can look at pictures of Prince over the last five years and compare them to pics of the last 6 to 12 months of his life, and they'll tell you he looked ill. What's baffling to me is that family and friends are allowing him to be painted as a drug addict. The only way I can see them letting this idea just hang out there like that is if he was dying from a disease that carried a stigma.

Prince always knew why he was here. To go on a spiritual journey. A spiritual journey has all kinds of bumps and bruises and hurdles and flat tires and mistakes and growth. He always loved God and appreciated this opportunity, this opportunity to use his time on earth to grow and serve, then finally go home free. His very first album "For You" was for God. He talked about these things to us in the 80s with The Cross. His spiritual journey included religion but was mostly spiritual. I don't think he knew when he wrote AOA in 2014 and earlier when he would go home; I think he had simply had an awakening of sorts and was expressing that.
