Would you rather have...

A new compilation of 50 never heard before songs from the 1996-2016 period

or

1 cd of 15 never heard before songs from the years 1980-1987

I'm taking the 1980-87 CD

What about you guys?

I'd rather have people finding ways to grieve that don't involve going over prince's catalog a million times looking for the slightest reason to make a thread

I'd rather have Prince still here with us, even if it meant not getting another album.

How about you dont tell people how to grieve.

And what does my question have to do about grieving?

There's no need to be obnoxious but that has been a common trait amongst org members for years so why change the habit of a life time....

OT: 96-16 for me. I rate his 90s work over his 80s work because that's the decade i grew up in & it's his 90s work that made me a fan for life

Interesting, I suppose its the opposite for me since the 80's music is what I grew up with. Studio songs from 80's and live stuff from mid 90's on. Absolutley, great albums after mid 90's and beyond, but I just love so much of live stuff over the last 20 years (maybe because theres so much of it) smile

Not being obnoxious. I'm being blunt. Every day I see the same topics being revived in the same exact way and people going over the same things with a fine tooth comb..

Mayte or mani (the latter of whom gets much hate btw)
What was the Prince song you listened to do say for breakfast
What prince song did you listen to before you went to bed?
What's the first thing you thought of this morning when you opened your eyes and thought of Prince..
Etc etc

The topics are becoming dry and convoluted because they are simply the same old topics being rehashed this time with a heavy layer of grief and all that comes along with it... so this is what 3 months after his death.. I am just watching to see how 6 months into it ..how it will go... will people keep creating the same topics and beat the horse to mush.. hey we shall see. I've been reading this board for years and I can truly see why he didn't like the term fan...

I'd hate to have to choose.

A box set with a different era of unreleased titles per CD, with a DVD of the final Atlanta concert. That would do it for me.

It'll be nice either way in my book. As long as it's tampered with for quality purposes only. No "remixes" or new guest features added to it.

Maybe you could just stay away? Or perhaps not read those specific threads? At least there would be no temptation then to leave hurtful comments. Just sayin'.

1996-2016. I have plenty of unreleased music from the 80s, but next to nothing from more recent years. With 50 songs, it's more likely there would be some I like. I'm really interested in hearing music from the 3121, Lotusflower, Welcome 2 America, and Black Is The New Black sessions.

I'm sure we all would, but he's not. This is the reality of being a Prince fan now. The only thing to look forward to is vault releases. sad

At least this thread is about the music, and is pretty inoffensive compared to some of the dumbassery that goes on on this board. shrug

Definitely 1996-2016.
Prince grew. I want to know who he became, not keep my head stuck in the past. So depressing.
Not to mention he shedded himself of a lot of his past language etc.
Growing spiritually is really important. I want to know who someone is today, or became.

You are right, this is our reality now. But I have a lot of ambivalent feelings about the release of material now. On one hand, I am excited to hear anything the estate releases that wasn't previously released, time frame doesn't matter. I read in an interview once, many years ago, Prince said there were things in his vault that he didn't think the world was ready to hear and those are the songs I'm wanting to hear. On the other hand, I'm not as excited about the release of vault material becaue Prince isn't / won't be involved in the release of that material. It was always an exciting time for me when it was announced that Prince would be releasing a new album. It just won't be the same when it is announced Prince's estate will be releasing a new album. sad I want to be excited about it, but the main element of that music isn't here to bask in the glow of people's reactions to that release.

I am also ambivalent about vault releases...
Part of me feels like to the vault is like a journal of sorts...not everything in a person's journal is meant to be published... confused Granted, Prince has no control over that at this point, but when something is released, particularly studio sessions..part of me would be"would he approve?" or it may not seem like it's coming from him..meh..hard to say.. on the other hand EXCEPT for live sessions though..I missed those wink

You and I seem to have similar feelings. I know I would like to hear somethings from the vault, but right now I'm no overjoyed about it.

I agree with both of you. It was always a dream to get into the vault, but these are the worst possible circumstances. Any excitement over new music will be tempered by that.

Everything is in the past now, and every period was important in shaping the person he ultimately became.

Most definitely the 80s stuff, especially the stuff from 1980-1984. I have no interest whatsover even in the slightest to hear the 90s stuff to the present.

That's because these threads get closed before people get a chance to post their response to something someone has said, so they just continue with a new thread with a similar theme/topic.

Yes, I know, all of its great. I love it all. Not sure about Kamasutra though. Whenever I think about that one, the first thing I hear in my head are those darn scissors.
