Guns n' Roses & Prince This morning, a video of GnR came out, with original drummer Steven Adler on drums. Adler has not been in the band for a long time (1985-1990), because of drugs and alcohol, and the long term effects on the body (and eventually long term abuse). The video is from last night, July 6, in Cincinnati, OH. Adler sat in for "My Michelle" and "Out Ta Get Me". Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Duff McKagen was a HUGE Prince fan. Wrote about it 5 years ago here: http://archive.seattlewee...uffmckagan [Edited 7/7/16 8:45am]

When I went to see Prince at his W2A show in Tacoma, Duff along with all the royality of Seattle Rock showed up at the concert. (Minus Heart and Pearl Jam). 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

It's been there since 4/21. GnR also posted all over social media on Prince's birthday with a picture of Duff's bass with the quote that Prince would always be with them. It's amazing the far reaching influence that Prince has.

Duff talks about Prince many times in his book and he's been very public about it. He goes to my church and I've wanted to talk to him about it, but never actually went up and introduced myself to him. Maybe I will once my book comes out.
I'm reading his second book and it is a lot of fun as well.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Very cool. I was a huge GNR fan back in the day. At Coschella Axl said they wouldn't perform a Prince song because they wouldn't be able to do it justice. Paisley Park is in your heart

I remember watching an old interview with axel And Kurt loder on MTV. Axel had just turned 30 And he told Loder that he was talking to Prince about it. Prince told Axel "yeah its tough turning 30" or something like that. Obviously, P and GnR were buds.

Thank you so much for sharing. Outside of being a famous musician, his story sounds almost exactly like my life story and the story of many in the Org. Thanks, again. Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

Duff covered Bambi for the B side to his single Believe In Me

Maybe Slash changed his ways over the years, but he said some mean and homophobic things about P back in 91. He had a bad encounter with P (and his band) backstage at the MTV muic awards.

He has certainly become more coherent over the years. Duff is a legit Prince fanatic, going back to Controversy. He's also the closest thing to an adult in the band, having traded in substance abuse for being a partial manager of a hedge fund. I saw the reunion show here in Detroit a couple weeks back, as I had never seen Slash live. Phenomenal guitar player. Amazing tone and precision. Axl was Axl, he remains a great frontman. If you like heavy rock and roll, it's a show worth seeing.

"If you like heavy rock and roll, it's a show worth seeing".........Yup, but no thanks. I saw GnR with Living Colour and The Stones back in 89.

I love, love, love GNR. One of my fave bands. And yeah, Duff has been a Prince fan for a long time. I believe the Love Symbol on his bass was put there a few weeks after Prince passed. It had been noticed at least a month ago. |

GnR just played Toronto and I was just watching some of the videos my friend posted on facebook. The stage was lit up in purple throughout. [Edited 7/17/16 10:43am] Good morning Ladies & Gentlemen,

I love GnR and have been a huge fan since they began. Read Slash's, Steven's, and Duff's books. Actually even went to a Velvet Revolver show, and a show during one of Slash's solo tours. That being said GnR was never quite the same for me after they fired Steven. It was the beginning of the end. Izzy left then shortly after. Still trying to decide if I want to catch this reunion thing cuz I'm over Axl in a big way Lol Duff is a class act and has always given Prince his props. Slash is a different person today than he was at the height of their fame, and his corresponding substance abuse. So happy for Steven getting to sit in with the band on a couple songs! I've always had a soft spot for him
On a side note: Scott Weiland died last fall of a drug OD just a few miles from PP in his tour bus that was parked in a hotel lot while his new band's tour was going thru MN. I related to so much of what he said. "That record was the soundtrack to my life and gave me the confidence to move to L.A. at 19, with nothing more than belief in myself. Prince's music can do that." 🙌🙌🙌 Amen to that!

I read Duff's first book and he mentions Prince several times. I want to get his second book too. Very well written and he seems super intelligent. Axl was a smart businessman to fire Duff and Slash though for drug use. They were pretty hooked at the time. So it is cool they patched things up. Their new shows don't compare to their old stuff, but for nostalgia's sake, I guess it's pretty cool. I bet they will have the biggest grossing tour of the year.

Beyonce is at $5.5 million per show to their $3 million. No bet, just saying, lol. What?

Yet Beyawnce has more overhead (like Madonna) . However, G&R has to split it up amongst the band. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Oh yeah, that's right. Not to change the topic but, I would rather hear Beyonce sing lead for G&R than Axl. I mean, yeah - he can still perform. But he often sounds like a sick cat to me. The qualities of his voice that made it so unique seem to have faded. The energy that the band once had too is all but gone. I would rather watch their old concerts on youtube. But they sure now how to milk the fans out of every penny. $450 for floor seats, and that is not even for front floor seats.
