I'd rather hear "One Kiss At A Time"...

"When We're Dancing Close And Slow" does wonders in the shower wink

"Girl" is sex on wax...

But your analysis was really worth the read, NuPwrSoul. Quite enjoyable nod

Do Me Baby has the lyrics and seduction in the vocals. But godammnit I'm talkin bout the FEEL the FEEL.

Go put Shhh on a loud stereo system with some serious subwoofers and lay down with yo girl and tell me ya dont start grindin to the FEEL.

chickengrease

when i fust heard Prince's versions of Shhh I was so blown away by that intro. I hadn't heard a kick ass intro like that for a ballad since The Ohio Players' I Want to Be Free.

And thanks NewPwr...you've given me a title for a song I wrote based on Shhh.

Strangely enough,

I don't appreciate this song maybe as much as I should.. because of Tevin's version coming out 1st..

that somehow changed my perspective of the song once "the artist" did his own version..

yeah, I suppose "shh" has a certain, PG-13 naughty "feel" to it.. but like it's been said elsewhere in this thread.. songs like "Do Me Baby" & "Girl" & 1 or 2 others.. they have more of that "sex on wax" feel to them..

but-

like we say in French:

à chaqun son.. truc!

I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

i agree..prince's version takes a 'good' song and turns it into a 'great' song...

i liked tevin's version okay..but prince's version def'ly got something else goin' on...

Sooo b/c he has other songs that are more clearly "sex on wax", this one can't be appreciated for its pounding sexiness?? confuse disbelief

I like Prince's version better than Tevin's. It's more passionate and intense. More exciting.
Prince sang it like he KNEW what he was talkin'bout!

disbelief Mhm Mhm Mhm get the wax out yalls ears man. We *AINT* talkin about the lyrics! We're talking about the FEEL, the tempo, the way the song starts off slow and builds to a climax only to STOP and then build and then STOP and then build to finally blow in a guitar solo at the end.

Do Me Baby and Girl may have the lyrics, but they in no way sonically portray sex in the same way. Do Me Baby comes close but the song is delivered pretty straightforwardly until the pillow talkin scene near the last half.

But as far as following along the rhythm and movement, it's all about SHHH.

Very nice description, NuPwr. I also would’ve never guessed that this tepid Tevin Campbell version could’ve been turned into something of high quality.

For those of you who are still struggling with the “Do you after school like some homework” line, try to look at that as Prince making an analogy to the passion of young love, not Prince trying to write in the voice of a young person.
