The Grand Progression and Revelation

Just wanted to share my experiences with these two songs. If nothing else this post will serve as cheap therapy for me. With that in mind...

Revelation was the only song off of HnR2 that stood out to me. For that matter, it was the first Prince song in a while that really grabbed hold of me. The song played constantly in my car, my earphones, my home, my office and floated around in my head when it wasn't being played. It was such a sweet, beautiful song with a sublime guitar solo. It hit all the right emotions for me. On the day Prince died, I had been listening to Revelation on repeat during my morning drive to work. I loved the song and couldn't wait until lunch so that I could put the song on in my car. Prince has never been far off my main radar at any point, but it was weird that this song just stayed playing on my iPod leading up to April 21. I remember clearly walking back into work that day with that guitar solo floating in my head only to check my messages and learn of Prince's passing. Because of how that song is connected to my timeline on April 21, it will remain one of the most important Prince songs for me. It will be tinged with sadness to listen to it, but it also makes me happy to know that Prince left me/us with such a strong, beautiful song stuck in my head.

Like a lot of Prince songs, I never got a chance to hear them until after his death. I've stumbled upon The Grand Progression and know its history as a last minute cut from Graffitti Bridge soundtrack and replaced with Still Would Stand All Time. I am just really enjoying this song even though it sounds raw and unfinished to me. I don't know if it would have added or subtracted from the GB soundtrack, but I am confident it would have been loved by Prince fans had it ever officially seen the light of day. I love music and love how songs have become intertwined with moments in my life. I'm glad that I discovered The Grand Progression and can enjoy it now, but what a shame it is that I am 26 years late to the party.

better late than never!

.

I love music also, and I feel sorry for the people that only got into his music since he passed. His music and lyrics take on a whole new meaning when he was still "here" vs. "now" and they won't get to tie the songs to events in their lives, etc. when Prince would release something new, thought provoking and revelant.

.

But then again, they probably aren't in the complete "funk" either....

Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.
