I'm just thinking, with someone he shared so much intimacy with, so much a part of his life. They've gone through some THANGS together. For a man who communicates his feelings through his music even one song seems paltry for someone who has ridden that crazy train for so long.

Perhaps there are songs in the vault. Or perhaps the energy that would have gone into writing muse songs ended up going to collaborative bits in all of these other songs. One of the features of being a muse is that you often end up being a channel or a sounding board for creativity that gets hijacked.

Maybe it was her personal history at the time (wary because she came off a relationship with Carlos Santana, the abuse) which made her wary of being sucked completely in? She also seems a lot stronger willed than many of his muses or women he was romantically linked with.

Thanks for bringing this up, morningsong. I have some observations... I thought that he and Sheila's relationship was also mostly platonic - until I saw the 2007 ALMA awards performance. Their performance begins innocently enough, but after he goes and wraps his arm around her shoulders/ upper torso and sings, you can see a visible chubby as he walks away. He has on a winter white turtle neck, and matching long jacket and pants in this show. A picture of this very moment is posted in another recent {derailed} thread. The rest of the performance he kind of dances around her and her drum kit, and it kind of looks like a rooster preening. Anyway - this peaked my interest - enough to go get her book from the library.
There is more to this relationship than meets the eye... I personally believe the protege verse in "I Love You But I Don't Trust U Anymore" could be about Sheila. No disrespect to other org threads... I'm a believer in his and Vanity's story too and I'll also stan for Mayte... I just think the song fits better with Sheila.

Similarly, I think "Somewhere Here On Earth" is with Sheila in mind. She was always out there travelling, grinding for her career. She was essentially P's work wife, but never really able to be put up on a shelf and just be for Prince like he really wanted from a wife.

I don't say that to suggest she lied, it's to explain why if they had a romantic relationship there aren't that many songs about her. Their chemistry (link to an '80s performance) on stage is undeniable.
