You know what's amazing to me about Controversy (the album)...

That when I was 12 in 198__ (eek), I was in LOVE with Private Joy, was secretly listening to Jack U Off and was intrigued but scared by, Do Me Baby. Around 14/15, I was majorly digging on the "underground/WE know but THEY don't know" feel of Sexuality and Annie Christian,still getting off on Jack U Off on headphones, and starting to understand the "scene" of Do me Baby...

By 20, it became all about the funk of Controversy and Let's Work, and it all started falling into place... The way Controversy fits in at the "beginning" of Prince's "bad-to-good" passion-play...

And now at 31, every song I mentioned above is still top notch and I consider one of the greats...

The really funny thing... Over 20 years, I still skip past Ronnie Talk to Russia! Now when I hear it, all I can think of is Miko Weaver doing his little 80s dance in the Livesexy video.. He had nothing to do with COntroversy of course, but dammit if that song doesn't make me think of his cheesy a** and those loud-a** tights!

"Let's Work" It's the jam! I remember the first time I heard it and thought, wow, this is Prince? I have to get all his stuff!

Then..

"Controversy"
"Private Joy"
"Annie Christian"

It was all really good (except for "Ronnie Talk To Russia")

Three-way tie b/w Sexuality, Do Me, Baby and Private Joy.

EASY question,

Controversy the title track of course! It's one of his baddest funk tracks. It has everything that defines Prince.

Just too bad he doesn't play it anymore, let alone able to make another controversy style jam.
