Colonized Mind This is one of my favorite songs. I have listened to it a lot lately both the studio version and live versions. My favorite live versions are the Umbria Jazz and North Sea Jazz. I love the way he covers up the mixup lyric in North Sea. In all the live versions I have seen/listened to he seems to change the lyrics every time and he does not sing the verse about contracts. Did he ever sing this verse live? What are your favorite live versions? This is one song I like the studio version as much as live versions.

I love Colonized Mind and Makeba is no doubt the reason. It's sort of like how Kanye West takes an old sample and makes a new piece of art from it. The song Musicology was a nod to James Brown. The song Guitar was a nod to U2. Over the last 20 years or so, Prince, at best, sounded like other artists or sometimes like his old self. But he never was really able to touch the genius work that he produced back in the day. Gold Experience was fresh. Some stuff on Emancipation. But then I guess he met Larry and it all fell apart. Fucking religion. But on the other hand, if Larry helped Prince become a happier man, then good for him.

Wow. That's quite something. I love he way he uses the music and lyrics to frame a comparison between an individual blaming to addiction and one which references the social determinants of health. It seems so bitterly ironic that if he had heeded the approach she advocated he may not have succumbed to the latter. Such beautiful music, such pain, and such a call to action. I'm looking out for a purple dolphin.

that's the story lots of people have on prince in the later years. Myself, i only care about good songs and prince never stopped writing good songs, at least in my eyes. Elvis' later work was ignored too but believe it or not, some of that stuff was frucking great!

Even though "Colonized Mind" is a ripoff of "Quit It," it's still in my top ten favorite Prince songs. The studio and live versions are excellent. I love the groove, the lyrics, and the guitar solo. Great song.

it was about the most honest ripoff he ever wrote if that makes sense. He didn't often write from that slanted of an angle, particularly in the early to mid 80's. He was all inclusive when he was young even though he may have been concealing his true feelings. Many of his fans still hate the song Avalanche because they like their black entertainers safe and not speaking about the issues of this countries history. the lyrics of colonized are pretty deep too, he isn't absolving anyone really. He's giving everyone their little piece of the blame.
