Disappointed with TV coverage People are still talking about Prince a LOT since April 21 yet after the first weekend post-4/21 there hasn't been much at all on TV in the way of specials or documentaries or interviews or anything about him. Yes I know we had the billboard awards. But Prince wasn't there and it didn't give much insight to him as a person (yes, I know it did musically somewhat). And I know people celebrated him. But one station for example, airs some terrific specials the weekend after 4/21 and won't even talk about re-airing them. Is this a tactic to be "in demand" until they finally, with enough attention, will show those shows again? That's how it feels. Same situation with another station I asked about this on social media. What gives? Where are the great shows with concert footage and interviews with those who had experiences with Prince?

The media is on to the next story. Just how it is, not necessarily a reflection of a lack of respect. Any reporter would tell you that their editor/producer is after what's happening NOW, not what happened two months ago. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

. When the formal memorial(s) happen, there will be coverage. Until then, it's pretty much gossip. They've not even showing Purple Rain right now . Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I could listen, talk, read, discuss and debate Prince every day. But not everyone feels the same, and some think I'm obsessive. So I come here. The tributes that I've participated in have been really heartfelt, sincere and fun and I am glad to be around others who love him as much as I do, nothing compares to Prince..not even close. I miss him terribly and there is a Prince-less kind of silence in the world. I think that makes sense.
..Hello, who is it?
Yes, this is a prettyman, Princey!

Why are you looking to "the media" to uphold him now? They didn't really do it when he was here, so unless some huge development happens w/ the estate, they've moved on. He'll only be fondly remembered/respected by those who knew him/loved him, fellow musicians, & his true fans. Don't expect it anywhere else unless you want to be disappointed.

I agree, also it might pick up on the 1, 5 and 10 year aniversaries mostly by some who want to cash $$$$$$$$ in so the speak. Keep Calm & Listen To Prince

What about the great tributes such as Canal+ Le grand journal (french TV) & SNL? "Money won't buy U happiness but it'll pay 4 the search."

What about the great tributes such as Canal+ Le grand journal (french TV) & SNL? Weekend post-4/21. On Demand (another one I'm unhappy with) oddly pulled its SNL Prince tribute a few weeks after they aired it, leaving plenty of older SNL shows up from this season. On Demand has a few videos of very popular 80s music all in HD only, one not in HD (Breakfast in Bed - the one newer video I couldn't be less interested in), and the 3 movies for sale which are 24 hour rentals. No good videos or anything else. Yet they have a whole section of music including award shows from the past where other artists collect awards...no Prince whatsoever. The other music and videos are this awful rap stuff or newer younger artists mostly with non-melodic, computerized stuff they call music now. It's nuts. It's as though the people there are completely asleep, or they're too young to see anything other than under-30 current pop "music". We've lost a musical genius of a generation! Of course I called and complained right after 4/21 and the Comcast lady said she agreed with me and was getting other calls but the kids running the show there won't change it. Weird!!!! There isn't going to be a "formal memorial". I spent some time thinking about how to let you down easy on that front, but came up with nothing. I'm sorry.
Certainly the family isn't going to do anything more but wait for their paycheck. I'd be surprised even if the Grammy's had anything more than the customary name in the "In Memoriam" section, and no special tribute.

I am kind of feeling this may be the case too. Also the media have moved on. Their job is to report current news and this is no longer considered current even though it's still is to us. Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Prince died, it was news, they covered it. That was three months ago. The worlds turns, other news happens. The tributes weren't going to go on forever. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'd say if anything his death was a bit overcovered, especially given how much he was ignored by mainstream media for most of his career. How much coverage can be done? I was a little bit surprised it was as a huge a story as it was. I mean, I knew it was BIG, I just didn't think it'd be THAT big.

No one from his camp or family will really talk, so the media moved on to other stories.

It would just be nice if there was some footage of him on TV. I guess someday they'll start making the hourlong documentaries etc Still think it's weird that "certain" TV music stations stop talking as soon as we ask for them to re-air Prince specials, when every single day they're doing the exact same types of specials on other artists from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Very very strange. 🤔

I could talk Prince and his music all day, every day, but that is not the way of the world. Frankly, the coverage of his death, the tributes, adulation and aftermath have been so much greater than I ever anticipated. His death has been covered and respected more than almost anyone I can remember since Princess Diana. I am thankful for the respect and love he has received posthumously. (Insert something clever here)

I thought it was big. Prince didn't have as many scandals as MJ and his death was somewhat of a shock given his nature of clean living.

I mean, it's the middle of July. I don't see them covering him THAT much now. He was full of scandals but again, it's the middle of July.

I'm in the UK and have also been disappointed but to get it right it takes time. I was in hospital that night but I understand BBC4 repeated the Purple Reign doc (or some such) and I know at some point early on Sign of the Times was on Sky Arts but I think that's pretty much it. Quite sad but the time will come for the specials. Unfortunately we'll probably see one of those horrific autopsy shows before anything else (they're showing Bobbi Kristina next week which is sick). In comparison to Bowie I was never a huge fan so haven't paid much attention but I believe there has been more for him, then again he was homegrown & he passed earlier so maybe that's why. Could be worse, imagine being a huge Jeff Buckley fan when he passed, most people wouldn't have even known him!

This. I'll be the first to admit Prince got the news coverage he deserved after his death. It seemed everyone everywhere was aware of the fact P was no longer living. The media did a good job getting his name out there (although they tarnished it with some of the more speculative articles). Maybe do, just not like did before

agreed Bowie's death was a big deal but I think Prince's was more widespread. Maybe do, just not like did before

I think the amount of coverage Prince initially got was simply unexpected. It was unexpected because most people just didn't understand who he really was or what he had been up to so quietly all these years since PR.
All the encouragement, friendships, altruism, relationships, music and concerts...everything. Truly only his ardent fans or his home state still kept up with him. And people in the industry. The mainstream public was largely unaware of what a great talent he was and how much music they had missed. This affected people and made them regretful and respect this man who's talent they had missed while he was alive physically. This all created a deserved respect and attention and the sudden blast in media coverage, symbol tattoos, record sales and so forth. It's all deserved. [Edited 7/15/16 12:27pm]

The media will be quiet on Prince until December and then they will re-hash all of the celebraty deaths in the year and he will be at the top of the list. I don't look forward to the week between Christmas and New Years.

I think the shock of it all and his age had a lot to do with the media coverage. Not a bad job but then again...this is the mainstream media we are talking about. The have not cared about him since he changed his name - and even then, it was to make fun of him. Who gives a fuck about tv anyway?
