It's old. Wax Poetics just re-issued their Prince edition from a few years ago. It contains this article. (I'd verify the date, but I'm not sure where I put it.)

IIRC it was in the Prince special first published in 2012.

Thanks for this. Really enjoyed reading it.

From what I remember Prince was really inspired by the style of the film "Bladerunner", which was out around the time he would have been filming this. I wonder if it's where he got the back lighting idea from?
