Great song...by the way, if anyone's wondering what the DLM Mix of it is like, it's just an edit (it starts right at the beginning of the 1st verse, no intro)...

Wish Prince wasn't so cryptic about the meaning of his songs but there is a line in the song that says "If I don't see you real soon baby girl I might go insane" so it is obviously written [Edited 8/30/16 3:45am] Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes? - Prince 1985

I did see an interview with him at the time and the reporter was like "So this song was written for your wife Manuela.." and he kinda didn't say yes but he didn't correct her either and he did say it was a song about monogomy. It was one of the best songs he had written around that era imo, you could tell he was freshly inspired by his second wife.

No, he didn't take it back exactly. On the Rosie O'Donnell show, he said that he noticed Mayte on the way in to one of his concerts and said, "There's my future wife." When she questioned him, he said he was just being rambunctious at the time he made the comment, but did feel something when he actually met her. Keep in mind she was only 16 at the time. Anyway, he was married to Mayte at the time he said this (I think 1997), so she was not erased from his life at that point.
Who knows about any of it really. I don't think you can take anything an artist says in an interview as gospel truth, especially one who likes to mess with reporters. But, he wasn't saying that he didn't feel anything for Mayte when he said he was being rambunctious. He did notice her. So there's that.

That's interesting, Prince was the master at being evasive! I know we all interpret his lyrics differently to fit our own views and what's going on in our lives, but it would be nice to know directly from him what the inspiration and meaning was when he wrote them. I do hope we eventually find out someday if they find and publish any notes he had written. Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes? - Prince 1985

Yes it was an Access Hollywood interview in 2004 if you want to find it online. But I think Prince would have wanted his songs to be inturpted in any way the fan wanted to view it.

Love this song I don't know why some think it's boring. Ain't to me. Love his singing on this too.# I love it when you call my name Prince

This song was clearly written for Manuela because he mentions carrying her through the Bridal Path door....and Bridal Path was the address of their house in Toronto. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Yes I know. I saw the access hollywood interview where he said that. And in addition about that woman I worked with, I think she is mistaken, I don't think Eye hate u was written about her..I really just got the feeling she was a hook up but just my opinion, I don't know I wasn't there, when she was seeing him

I´m pretty positive that that song was written with Carmen Electra in mind because of what he says in the remix (the one million dollar investment and that she´d have to prostitute herself to pay it back). The rumors back then were that she did it with Tony M and that´s why her and Tony were no longer in the Paisley camp after that incident. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Actually, "I Hate U" was originally called "I Hate Ewe" as he doesn't like female sheep.

I wonder if Tony M said anything about Prince's passing. I thought I read he lives in Atlanta now.

Last time I heard of him was when he was in the audience during an Atlanta Prince show a few years ago. And then there was also a recent picture in the associated artists forum but so far no mention of any reaction. Then again, I don´t follow him on Twitter or anything, so I wouldn´t really know. The woman in the Access Hollywood interview is a friend of MT. It was all too set up for my taste. Not to say it isn't true but why comment on emonogamy out of nowhere. Thre is both in the lyric that talks about it. It seemed forced and random even for a prince interview. Prince #MUSICIANICONLEGEND

Damn phone again. There is nothing in the lyrics that talks about monogamy. Prince #MUSICIANICONLEGEND
