Why are so many videos and recordings being taken down? Is it because Prince never wanted them up?.. It's really unfortunate that people will not be able to witness that, firsthand.

I am deeply appreciative to Seyoum Osaze who posted tons of stuff on youtube.. can't tell you how much all those videos mean to me.. Youtube suspended his account because they "received multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement regarding material" that was posted. <sigh>....

So when youtube, vimeo, and all over the net, etc get a 'cease and desist' letter they have to take down copyrighted stuff (videos, etc.) where those and other sites do not have 'permission' for stuff to be posted. If the cease and desists are ignored the sites can be 'politely' threatened to get shut down and/or legal action taken, eg. being sued. Even the individual(s) who posted can be sued too.

An outfit was hired to enforce copyright infringement on behalf of Prince http://www.websheriff.com/. It's been going on for years and up to now. Other artists use this service too, so Prince was not the only one.

We don't represent youtube, vimeo or any other site. If you have questions then I suggest you contact the admins of those sites for answers.

I have been contacted to take down 'stuff' on the org that was deemed copyright infringement by the purple po po. The org has always cooperated.

Copyright is an idea that has been taken too far to extract money from woever possible for way too long a time.

This push to extend the copyright term is mainlycoming from US companies like Disney.

A lot are posting songs that are available to buy which is the most f'd up thing. People are also making money off what they post and have been bragging about how much they've made via YT since Prince passed.

Yes regular people can make money from youtube, like via advertising. It's only supposed to be content the uploader owns but I have seen people discussing how much they've made from YT via Prince. Not everyone posting Prince stuff is doing it obviously but some are. They might have all been banished now though since the crackdown started.
