So much misunderstanding here about drug dependency and addiction. Someone with a dependency isn't necessarily running around "raving" -- there are thousands of people with dependency issues who have jobs, families etc., and look basically "normal" to outsiders. And once someone is dependent/addicted, words like using drugs for "recreation" vs "pain relief" don't apply anymore. At that point, a person HAS to continue taking the drug to avoid withdrawal, which can be uncomfortable at best and deadly at worst. Addiction and dependency are physiological reactions to the drug and have nothing to do with morality or whether there was a "good reason" someone starting taking the drug in the first place.
The misunderstanding about this issue adds to feelings of judgment and shame -- and may make people who are suffering from addiction less likely to admit they have a problem and seek help. Kind of like what someone we "know" might have felt.

I disagree and that mindsat might have been the reason Prince delayed getting help. It is not the person fault if they get hooked on pain pills due to pain managment. I think most people know that recreation drug use is just that a choice. We know that he was seeing Dr. S for withdrawrals so he was getting help it does not appear it was going well and should have been in a hospital. You should also realize t hat the withdrawals are not uncomfortable that are horrendous and as I have said I doubt Prince was hooked on these things for long because people have died just going thru the withdrawals and he touring and traveling. |

.
I don't like Fox News any more than you do, but Friedman is well-regarded.
A well reguarded gossip columnist what a fucking joke. |

Travis Smiley said he knew. Obviously, this Friedman guy knew, which means many others knew. Threads on the org have been made in the past about odd incidences and then later played down, so again others knew they just ignored it. |

And Tavis made it real clear that he was taking them due to pain not for recreational use. You could see from the look on his face when he was speaking to Sway that it pissed him off that people think P was some drugged out rocker. He went on to talk about Prince being a vegen and living a clean life.
The thing that gets me is that no one has stopped to think how Prince might have felt having to take these things in the first place. It probaly went against his core beliefts and look what happened in the end. |

Did I said you said anything about recreational drug use? Many people on this topic have implied that he was a recreational drug user and the media is definitely going in that direction. I actually forgot about Tavis as he is literally the only one in Prince's circle who said he needed those pills for pain the others said they knew nothing about it and never saw him high.
Very surprised that I have to explain to you that by "no one" I mean I have not seen any discussion about Prince using pain pills vs his clean living beliefs on this board. I do not mean I am the only one capable of understanding the situation WTF did that even come from?

I'm not getting the impression from most people on this board that they believe he was using this medication as recreational, there may be some but not most, but that's my impression of course. But, so we're not ignoring the elephant in the room, there does pose a question, where did the medicating end, and the dependency begin, and that's a very uncomfortable thin line, but a real one on a lot of our minds.
The minute I heard Travis say that, I knew others had to know, obviously not everyone close to him, but others. I've even seen it posted around here that Wendy kind of knew, then there was Mani's 2011 comment, so I'm guessing rumors were circulating. And it seems it was a subject he'd brush up against every once in a while. Top it off with the fact that a columnist, gossip or not, brought it up years ago, says tons about what people really knew. The stigma of this isn't something anyone wanted pinned on Prince because of all the other things he was, and that's what has brought us all to this point. Personally, I'm so frustrated with the whitewashing of it I want to explode. Because maybe, just maybe if it was looked at in a real way, then somebody, one person, wouldn't have ignored it and been able to get through to him that this was something that needed his full 24/7 attention, it was far bigger and meaner than he was. Just my perspective.
Seems a bit irrational to get mad at orgers, we had such miniscle information on what was what. Heck there have been arguments for years on whether he was a vegan, or vegetarian. And I remember a thread many years back about him eating pasta with cheese or some kind of dairy product, and people would nearly beat you down if anything was said that didn't show him to be a vegan so that got swept under the rug like a whole lot of other things. Exaggerations have gotten us nowhere. |

Who said he was abusing them? A person can take pain pills for legitimate reasons. Prince had hip pain..I think that has been established. To treat that pain he took painkillers. If you class that as abuse then that's an I'll informed opinion. We don't know he was abusing them. All we know is he was taking them and died from an overdose. IF we get more information about his pill history that points to abuse then and only then can we conclude that he was abusing pain pills. We still don't know what medication caused his overdose on the plane and why. Ok maybe abusing is not the right word. And you're right, there still is so much we don't know. I still wonder if he didn't have an illness that we may never know about. Something caused the weight loss that was noticeable towards the end of '15 and into '16. Plus his personal chef said he was fighting the flu and colds a lot. Paisley Park is in your heart

I agree. Read about half of it so far. Need a break, its too early and its overwhelming. I wonder if P read it too...Remember, he DID have some kind of surgery the year after this.. So he did try to correct the problem in some way..Maybe it didnt completely take the pain away so he continued with the pills. Sadly, he may have been depende t on them by that point..and maybe he oy "thought" he still needed them. Its curious but taking opiates for an extended time can actually cause the original pains to worsen..leading to taking more or something stronger..A vicious spiral..He very may well have gotten that pain under control if he had started a pain mangement regimen after getting past the withdrawal/addiction ztage... Fact is, he died of a fentanyl overdose, the strongest painkiller there is. You dont start taking that FIRST for pain..usually its pills first and then when they lose all effectiveness than Fentanyl comes in the picture. Do u really think anyone on the inside is gonna publicly say they saw him using pills? Seems those closest to him are more than loyal. Butjust cuz no one has said it doesnt mean its not true...No one went around sayin MJ was doin pills and Propofynl(or however its spelled).
