Apollonia 6 & "Sex Shooter"

I have a question about the "Apollonia 6" album; Is the song, "Sex Shooter" (3:39) supposed to end abruptly into the start of "Blue Limousine," or does it fade out? I know the 7" single version (3:00) has a fade out, but I need to know about the way it ends on the vinyl album or the Japan import CD.

This was my first attempt at posting anything on this forum. Sorry for the double posting, but I was expecting to see my first post at the top of the list. That is why I posted again. Now, I have it figured out, but I don't feel that my presence is too welcomed, at least by you. I thought that since Prince wrote, produced and performed on this album that the appropriate place would be in this forum. Anybody else feel that I should go elsewhere?

This was the appropriate place to post; however, there's a cadre here who are not welcoming. You'll soon recognize their screen names, due to them finding only fault with others.

Stick around. I don't know why they want to drive fans AWAY. But it sure seems like it.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

My sincerest apology for making you feel unwelcome, truly. Looking back now I was abrupt and harsh. Text conversations can be a mixed bag regarding interpretation.

I'm glad you got it figured out, there's a bit of a learning curve when you join. I'm still learning what belongs where--exemplified here. Hope to see you around, and don't get too beat down by the grumpy users. There are kind people, and we do have fun here.

To my recollection, every album version I've heard has suddenly cut off. I would suggest checking Discogs.com, and findind the All Versions listing for the album. CHeck the time signatures, and see if they different anywhere with yours. I mean, it's not unlike Prince to do something like that. "Dear Michaelangelo" abruptly ends and goes int" A Love Bizarre" on Romance 1600.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

So far, I have only received conflicting answers. So, I thought it wise to post in multiple threads, both here, Steve Hoffman Music Forum and YouTube. Evidently, the abrupt ending to "Sex Shooter" is on the Japan CD. One responder said the abrupt ending was also on his copy of the vinyl LP, yet the person who posted the YouTube video of the entire album said that the fade out is on his vinyl LP. So far, not a definitive answer.

I have checked Discogs and Prince Vault. All releases of the vinyl album has "Sex Shooter" at 3:39. What is so confusing is that the YouTube video of the entire album shows the track at the same running time, but with the fade out. The person who posted the video says the fade out is on the vinyl LP he posted.

jjam

The abrupt ending is on the US vinyl version of the album.

The YouTube poster just informed me that he made an error and has corrected it. The entire album of "Apollonia 6" that he posted is from the US cassette release. On it, "Sex Shooter" has a fade out.

Not true. I just checked the U.S. cassette and it is the same as the JAP CD. The song ends abruptly, right into Blue Limousine. The only fade out version seems to be the 7" single which is 1/2 a minute shorter than the album version.

Thanks for your comment. It seems the root of the confusion is with the YouTube poster. Somehow, he has acquired a 3:39 version of "Sex Shooter" with the fade out. He posted, "My friend that I got it from said it's a cassette copy, not the lp or the cd, so that's the problem I guess." His YouTube video can be found under the title, "Apollonia 6 - Apollonia 6 (Full Album)."

It's not unheard of cassette versions being slightly different to the CD or Vinyl in the Prince world but you'd be best checking Princevault first

http://www.princevault.co...ex_Shooter

they're not 100% correct about everything but i'd trust them over some random youtube member who has nothing to back up their claim.

Also, just went and checked the youtube video and compared to my CD version, you can hear the cut off between track 1 and 2, different sources for those tracks. The very last moment of the last second of Happy Birthday Mr Christian bleeds into the first second of Sex Shooter on the album but you can hear an abrupt end on the youtube rip.

All I know is I have the U.S. Cass, U.S. LP & JAP CD. I haven't checked the vinyl yet, but the US CASS & JAP CD do NOT have a fadeout.

I trust that jjam is correct and the LP is the same, but, I can check it too if need be.

Checked my U.S. Vinyl, NO fade there either.

I've checked U.S. LP, U.S. CASS & JAP CD today, all are the same and none have the fade.

I suspect the cassette "copy" that was used in the youtube vid was not legit. Sounds like someone put it together from more than one source or something.

Thank you for your comment. This certainly makes the most sense. I feel you are 100% correct.
