Because it was produced by Indianapolis native Reggie Griffin, a founding member of local funk band Manchild (featuring a very young Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds) and from a musically gifted/inclined family. Reggie is the one rapping the intro, too. I'm in the news again

I like Chaka's I feel for you better than Prince. I like Prince's When U were mine better than Lauper's version. I like Sineads Nc2u as much as I like the one nite live box set Prince version. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Agree. Chaka did a great version. Just like Sinead with Nothing Compares

Have you heard Nina Simone's cover of SOTT? It has a very different flavor. He must have been over the moon to have the inimitable Ms. Simone cover his iconic anthem, and not just live. She recorded it, too!!

I don't care what anyone says, I have always LOVED Cyndi's version of 'When you Were Mine' - and, like so many with CK's version of 'I Feel for You', I had no idea it was a Prince song until many years after the release of Cyndi's 'She's So Unusual' album.

WOW, never thought Nina covered Prince.
BTW, have you noticed that SOTT is a fave of jazz / cool musicians?
Robert Glasper, Billy Cobham, Wayne Krantz, Dorian Mode, etc

Usually I don´t like covers but I think Chaka nailed it!
Talking about SOTT versions... I loved Muse´s version for it.
