Purchasing Prince music on iTunes...please help.

So, I've recently purchased several albums that I originally had in phisical form on iTunes so that I can listen to them all in one place (created a Prince playlist of all Prince, etc). I use iTunes all the time for my music. I know he wasn't on iTunes for a long time, but now after his death, it seems that many of his albums are on iTunes. I've purchased almost all that are on there. My quesiton is, will his music likely be pulled off iTunes again (and does that mean that I will loose my purchases?). I like the option to stream them via wifi for now (so I dont use space on my phone to download all of them). But I don't want to ONLY stream them (withouth download option, on places like Tidal). I like to know I will have them forever. Plus I've already purchased all the albums. So was it a waste of $$$ to purchase all these albums on iTunes? Will they be lost if the estate pulls them from iTunes? Sorry if this is confusing.

iTunes tends to download the files to your computer, so once you have it, you have it. Even if they stop selling the album on the site, you still have it.

If you own the albums already, presumably on officially released CDs, why buy them again from iTunes when you can use the CDs you already own to import them into iTunes and manage them as you wish?

.

Aside from that question, the albums available for purchase in iTunes have been there for quite some time, not just since his passing. If you've purchased them and downloaded them, then you possess 256kbps mp4 files that are on your computer/tablet/phone. Make a backup of them and they're yours forever, though they're lower audio quality than the CDs you owned already.

.

My advice — always keep a backup of your iTunes library, preferably offsite if that's your main catalog of music and where you store everything you own. Dropbox or another cloud service can handle this pretty cheaply and provide you with a complete restore of your library in the event of a hard drive crash, theft, fire, etc.

Well, I could upload the original albums to iTunes, but wouldn't that mean that I would have to store them on my phone at all time (taking up space on my phone). I have 2 young kids, which means I run out of space all the time from the millions of pics and videos I take of them on my phone). haha I like to keep my phone space for pics/videos if possible. OR is there a way to store them in the cloud so that they wont use phone space, but I still always have accesss to them via-wifi?

Oh, and I guess I should add, I usually play the playlist from my phone...I understand on a full computer, space isnt as much of an issue. ME LIKES TO HAVE MY PRINCE W ME AT ALL TIMES headbang lol Thanks!

I prefer ordering the CDs from Amazon, which **at the same time** will download directly to your computer - even directly into your iTunes folder.

At least with the CDs, I don't have to worry about a system crash losing my music.

I don't trust iTunes to keep anything safe, since my account was one of hundreds hacked a few years ago by that Vietnamese app developer. Even after I changed my password and used my other computer, the hacker got back in. In those two hacks, I was charged $743 by Apple.

Even worse, when I contacted Apple, they would do nothing -- even though it was a known hack. They were trying to keep their image safe and would not refund the money. I had to go through my credit card company.

Why are you keeping all those photos on your phone? Why not upload them to DropBox, Google, or one of the other "cloud" services?

You can still access them from your phone but they won't be clogging it up -- and if you lose and/or change phones you won't lose your pictures.

If iTunes is your preference, look into iTunes Match. $25/year and all your music can be in the Apple cloud, accessible on all your devices, without taking up local storage on your phone. It covers music you've purchased through the iTunes Store and music you've imported from CDs into your iTunes library.

.

http://www.apple.com/itun...nes-match/

.

An excerpt of the overview:

.

With iCloud, the music you buy from the iTunes Store automatically appears on all your devices.1 And for music you haven’t purchased from iTunes, iTunes Match is the perfect solution, letting you store your entire collection in iCloud — even music you’ve imported from CDs or purchased somewhere other than iTunes. It’s built right into the Music app on your iOS devices and iTunes on your computer.

Oh. I like that. I should have done that before repurchasing so many Prince albums lately. ha. And giving iTunes all my money istead of Prince/the estate. cry Oh well. Thanks for the advise!

I should do that! Thanks for the advise. I download my pics off my phone every so often, but I ran out of space on my iMac (on iPhoto) so I started using Image Capture (the other option that comes on a Mac) and with that app it doesn't give you an option to delete the photos after transfering them, so I end up trying to go through and make sure Image Capture got all the photos, then deleting them once I see that they are there. I take enough photos that I should just trust they are all tranfered (I could probably stand to loose a few if I had to.. lol ) But sometimes it says certain files werent imported, etc so I always like to compare with what was downloaded. I know...that's an insanely time consuming way to do things. I just upgraded to a 3 TB harddrive, so hopefully, I can start importing into iPhoto again (or whatever the new option is). I heard there is a new app now.

But I like the idea of using a cloud service. My question is, is it as quick as seeing the photos on your phone "photos" app or is there a delay to view the photos because it has to retreive them? Like with icloud, lots of my photos (even the ones on my phone still) will have that little pie shaped thing that is "loading" the pic or video from the cloud. I hate that. Sometimes it never comes up and I just give up sad Espeically with videos.

I'd never store photos in the Cloud because they can be hacked. wink I use iTunes, too, and love listening 2 music I bought through my Apple TV at home.

They're safer on the cloud than in your phone....as long as you have a good password.

No one wants to hack my pictures. LOL

That's the thing about having CDs as a permanent back-up, they're always there. I rip them on the computer and then put them on my Ipod (I'm old fashioned) but I would certainly use Cloud to back up my computer or Iphone if I had one. My son has stored all of his music on Cloud for quite a while with no problems and he accesses it with his Iphone.

Why so many people using shit they know nothing about? Itunes sucks ass! Im just as guilty as the rest of you, but fuck me, does it make life complicated everytime you plug in your device and change library content. But definitely dont rebuy if you already have hard copy, infact NEVER buy from itunes, always buy hard copy and save it to your library or hard drive. I like to have something to show for a purchase
