Prince's Music Catalog Could Be Acquired By Apple The Wall Street Journal and other media outlets are reporting that Apple is in exploratory talks with Tidal about purchasing their music service, which currently has streaming rights to much of Prince's music catalog. The deal, if completed, and if the artist catalogs that are currently owned by Tidal are transferred, could open up Prince's vast music collection to a much wider audience. Here's a link to one article that cites the original Wall Street Journal article (the actual article requires a subscription to read it in its entirety): https://www.google.com/am...nt=safari# | |

Didn't he even switch to using PCs because he disliked Apple so much as a company? | |

Most recently, he was using a Dell laptop. You can see it in one of his final Instagram videos, and the reporter mentioned him using Windows Media Player on it. |

Not the catalog obviously but perhaps the digital distribution rights.
Knowing Prince's aversion to actually reading a contract (or even signing one), who knows that rights Tidal actually has. Now that people who respect law are in charge of Prince's affairs, I'm sure they'll be very interested in what is going on here.
Does the family have to give consent to the acquisition before Apple can stream and sell Prince music? it should, as it would have greatly dissapointed Prince to only a few months ago be so proud to give his digital rights to what he obviously throught was a Black-owned company to then find out that Tital is like any other startup with rich VC's funding a comapny with the eventual intent to sell to Apple anyway. (I suspect JayZ is like Chuck D here).
Unfortunately Prince may have signed a contract that does not give him (or his estate) the right to take back the distribution rights in the case of sale of Tidal?
Could be another case of Prince being hurt by his near psychotic distrust of legal and financial advisors.

Apple can go and suck a dick! So can Jay-z as far as I'm concerned | |

Sorry about the duplicate post - wasn't aware that this had been presented already. While the article does not mention Prince directly, those who are aware that the streaming rights were extended to Tidal by Prince, will be able to see the underlying meaning - if Tidal sells to Apple (or any other entity), the streaming rights of their roster of artists, including Prince, could be part of the deal. | |

I also misspoke when I said that Tidal owned Prince's music catalog. Thanks to the person who clarified that their actual agreement is for streaming rights. It's interesting to see that some people take their support of Prince as an artist so seriously that they get bent out of shape when a person makes a mistake with a detail. It's just a forum, and none of us are getting paid for our participation here. I thought we were here because of a common interest in Prince's music and to enjoy each other while we're here. Just my 2¢. Peace. | |

APPLE BUYING TIDAL: GREAT IDEA, BUT IT'S NOT HAPPENING
The Wall Street Journal report posted Thursday afternoon that Apple is in talks to buyTidal is not true, according to inside sources at Apple. But it would make perfect sense for Cue, Iovine, et al, to take out Jay Z’s service and remove it from the urban scene, where Tidal artist exclusives from the likes of Rihanna, Kanye West and Beyoncé are dominating the streaming landscape, along with Apple Music’s own Drake. Is the Cupertino crew worried that buying Tidal would make them look predatory? Are they fearful of more government regulations and oversight? The reality is that Tidal is a pimple on the ass of a giant. The latest intrigue is playing out amid bellyaching from Spotify, which is accusing Apple of trying to squelch the competition after Apple rejected the update to Spotify’s iOS app, and Elizabeth Warren, who called out Apple during a speech bemoaning the power of giant corporations. | |

Maybe there needs to be a simple tutorial everyone has to watch followed by a test to assess their understanding of how to use this site correctly before anyone can post again? Maybe they would pay attention to something like that. Because you don't seem to be getting anywhere with your approach. And it can't be good for anyone's blood pressure to be so uh touchy? Maybe that's a bad word but you know what i mean. Breathe...in...and...out...in...and... It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. Well, sorry if I spread misinformation. I do remember that his comments on Apple services weren't terribly positive during the latter years. I've probably just established a connection because I remembered the Dell got mentioned in the article. | |

---- What makes you think he had no respect for the law? He just got tired of being ripped off. It is possible he did the Tidal deal on a hand shake just like he did the mucicology tour. It would make it easy if the estate does not want the music in the site however, the estate will want it on Apple and even thought it was against is wishes he is not around to see it and if this kind of stuff worried him he would have made a will. I don't know if he cared what was going on after he left this earth and being on Apple we allow more people to hear his music. | |
