Ironically the night that I purchased it, the store ran out of paper bags. I bought it on cassette because I didn't want anyone (that I knew) seeing me walk out of the wrecka stow with that huge album cover. I just placed the cassette and receipt in my jacket pocket.

What the heck is this man doing now? What's up with the penis like thing? Why's it pointing at him? Is he trying to show off his nipple? What are you supposed to lick it or something? What in the heck made him decide to do this? Folks are going to say all kinds of things. I don't care it's Prince. Why in the hell is my player only showing one track? Dammit is it broke? Yeah I'd get the defective one. Wait a minute. Oh. Seriously?

Never bothered me. I enjoyed both the cover and the album from day one. Not sure why one would feel odd about this cover. It's tastefully done and there is no button pushing ala Dirty Mind, in my opinion. Did y'all make your girlfriends go up to the counter and ask for Pootie Tang, too?

. . I never got the CD version until the 1990s and those are the exact same things I said. Andy is a four letter word.

While I was madly in love with P, I remember thinking it was too feminine of a pose, and didn't really care for it. Of course I bought it anyway and loved the music. . Maybe it's just me, a midwestern girl, preferring a little more masculine, but the lovesexy tour program went over the top with all the rouge and makeup imo also. Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

I wasn't a big fan of it, but it was Prince sooooo... I remember hiding it from my mom cuz she would have hated Prince even more than she already did. lol

It was supposed to be art, religious statement, not smut. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I thought he looked beautiful, then again I wasn't even born when it first came out so perhaps my reaction would have been different. Nonetheless, when I saw it I thought it was a beautiful cover and the music was just as beautiful. And it is the music that really matters after all. Love is God,

Although something can be art, a religious statement and smut at the same time.

I mean Prince did the naked riding Pegasus picture though fuzzy it was, so we knew he'd get naked in a heartbeat, and the erect penis thing, though it was drawn, we've been there too but both on the same picture, art's not on my mind I tell u that. I'm moving into smutty territory.

You know, I didn't even notice that stamen until someone pointed it out to me.

If anyone thinks the stamen introduces an element of smut, they're completely missing the whole point of LoveSexy, not to say nature itself.

Absolutely his best album cover (and for a hugely prominent artist, he had some terrible album art). It suits the album, it suits his persona, it's not cheap-looking some of his other covers. No font, just a striking artwork. This made it into Strom Thorgerson's book of the greatest album covers. I'd say the second best cover is Parade. I love SOTT but the other two are more iconic.

Oh gotta love Lovesexy album! As far as the cover, before I listened to the album I was like wtf? Prince looks hot but I didn't like the way he was sitting, too feminine for me. But it made sense after I listened to the album and the spiritual aspect of it. I got used to the cover real quick. He was just making a statement and I believe it's spiritual, like the whole before the fail of Adam and Eve when nudity was not recognized, like that is our true natural state.
But funny story, I have Lovesexy on my phone and this cover comes up when the music plays. My husband was next to me and, yeah sad to say he does not get Prince like a shit ton of people around me (so, so sad). Anyway, his reaction to the cover was a big WTF. What the hell is wrong with him? I was like stop it now, this is Art, it's Prince! Get with it. So yeah, even in the year 2016 people don't get it. To each is own I guess!

I wouldn't quite say I was confused...more like severely curious as to why this super-talented black man, androgynous, but singing a lot of songs where he's messing with women, what made him go with this cover. I studied the whole picture. Came away thinking it was actually pretty classy, just unusual for a man to strike that kind of pose. But same as what you'd see walking into an art museum. Unconventional but beautiful, artistic, and classy. Nothing to write home about. Thought he looked beautiful. He always had a great physique.
