Maybe prince and his stepdad didn't have a father son relationship and were more like freinds? [Edited 7/2/16 18:08pm]Baby, you're a star.

i don't know, I heard that he moved out because of him. hayward once told a journalist "i'm the bad guy" because he was aware of his place in prince lore. |

I really don't think this is Prince, though. It sounds more like Damon or Kirk or someone else. Even when he drops his "phone voice" at the end of the call with the girl (possibly Tyka), that doesn't sound like him at all. Even his innotation and accent isn't the same as Prince. While Prince was a prankster, I'd have to debate that being him.
i'd put real money on it being him, the nerd voice is the same one he used on leno and on bob george. and his real voice is pretty distinctive. |

"Bob George" is an electronically altered voice, like Camille was as well. Even on the Lovesexy tour, there was an effect on his mic during "Bob George".
But that "real" voice at the very end ain't him.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

I think you may be right. It doesn't sound like the way or sound of Prince's laugh when the caller breaks character at the end. Doesn't have Prince's tone.
.
Plus, if it had been Prince, I would think that between the stepfather and sister, one of them would have recognized the voice a bit and asked if it was him.
.
Here's a bit of needless trivia: Call number 2 with the Stepfather, I heard this in the past couple of days as I've been listening to Ahdio Show # 6, which apparently sampled from the "Cream" maxi (mentioned earlier in this thread by another commmenter) by including the prank call as track #20 "Cream (Segue)", followed by "Cream (NPG Mix)".

Thanks for the laugh, that was hilarious! Also debatable if it was him to me, but still funny thinking that there is a possibility that it could be him. [Edited 7/3/16 9:36am]

why'd it make you sad, that was the funny one, the others were just slightly amusing. I told my brother about it last night and asked him if he could see himself talking to our stepdad like that without getting shot. black men of the earlier era were just a different breed and from a different world. The young today wouldn't really understand and society has kind of forced fathers to not discipline their children when they need it, and then they complain when these teens are in a position where the police have to be called and it turns into a whole nother mess. |

It may be funny to those not on the receiving end of statements like that.
"I don't like anything Prince has ever done."
"Children grow up battered...unwanted..."
Immediately after that is when Prince said, "I guess you have a personal problem, then, right?" and it escalated quickly. I think that Heyward's remarks hit a mark, and Prince reacted to it (and not in a humorous way).
I just imagine hearing those things from a stepdad who reportedly didn't really want me and who allegedly locked me in my room for 6 weeks (that's not discipline, that's abuse). I know that I would be pissed.

also, was it his stepdad that locked him in a room? I forget, I thought it was his dad. either way, like i sad, black dads didn't play in that era and to tell the truth, we could use a little of that these days for all these bratty assed kids. balance is the key of course. |

I've heard his speaking voice so many times in the flesh, even if he disguised it I would recognise it in a crowd. It is him. Life Matters |

Um... locking a kid in a room for 6 weeks at a time is serious abuse and can lead to serious communication and development issues. It's not just some good solid discipline. Solitary confinement will mess a person up in prison, and they've committed a crime... a kid just being a bratty kid is no reason to put them through something as potentially damaging as that. |

i doubt it was like solitary confinement, i'm sure they didn't take him out of school for six weeks or anything. even if he did, like i say, we all been through some shit. Nobody had it easy back then. I made it through but I know a lot more people who ended up dead, on drugs, in prison or what have you. Prince had to have seen a little humor in the shit even to call the dude up, like i mentioned, even today, even after I know i could whip my stepdads ass, even though I've talked shit to some really tough guys and watched them take it from me, i would not mouth off to my stepdad like that. so, i kind of think they werent on that bad of terms really. but, neither of us really know. |

I about died laughing at this. My favorite was when she asked him what he was doing, and he was like "What am I doing? Well, right now I am being harassed."
All in allthough you could kinda tell he thought it was hilarious that she did that.
There were so many people who were so offended that she dared do that, but logically speaking, if it really bothered him, he'd've simply hung up. Instead, he rolled with it. |
