Do you feel like less of a prince fan cause you didnt go to the concerts and related events?

I have always been a prince fan but i get jealous when folks on here mention their cool prince stories. I would have loved to be a groupie during Prince's heyday but I was only 24 hours old when the name change got announced. I never got a chance to dance at glam slam and I do a mean funky chicken. I never got a chance to go to a prince concert. I never even went to those famous late night parties at PP. I dont even have a copy of "goldnigga". I dont even know why people on here hate Tony M. I feel like my lack of stuff makes me seem like less of a prince fan.

Does anyone else feel like me? Do you feel like less of a fan cause you were not in the thick of it all?

Relax. There are different ways of being a fan. Some have other priorities in life. It's cool .

I think people panned Tony because of Jughead. not a good song. I play D&P from front to back and its the only song I skip.

Did you check out this thread :
http://prince.org/msg/7/427441

Since you date from the name change you ARE connected to Prince. Just because you weren't ten when Purple Rain came out doesn't make you less of a fan.

If your parents listened to Prince "Sexy MF" is the song responsible for your existence.

I don't feel like less of a fan but I do feel jealous and cheated a little for missing those experiences. I did try to get tickets to his shows in jan but it was impossible. I also did technology catch him once many years ago when he showed up at a club in mpls and jammed with the band that was on stage. He didn't say anything or play any of his music, he just slipped in and started gettin down on guitar, hanging back a little out of the spotlight. But he still stole the show while he was up there. And he left just as quietly and quickly as he came. I spent the last 25+ years raising a family and life was busy! That was about to change tho with having more freedom these days. I caught a couple glimpses of him at PP last fall for the HitnrunPhase1 tidal release event and a liv warfield show but he didn't perform either night.
It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

In my 30 something years of being a Prince fan I only saw him once sadly on the Musicology tour in Oklahoma City. I had tickets to the PR tour but as a teen family things happened and I couldnt go. I still have my Musicology tickets stubs in a book. It was even more special because my 10 year old son went with me and we had a great time. Wouldnt trade that one time for anything razz

i'm a musician and broke most of the time, i'm a musician because of Prince so, no, in general. I've seen him twice and would have seen him more if i had the chance. I don't know, and it really isn't my business, where people get the money to fly everywhere and follow a guy around to see hundreds of concerts, but I don't even come close to having it. I do wish i could have been to paisley park and of course I'd have loved to meet him.

As a nurse I do ok financially but Ive never had it like that to follow Prince around even though I wanted too thats why I kept asking him to come to Texas but he never would sad If they turn PP into a museum Im going before I leave this earth...I made myself a promise that I will make the trip.

I was too young to go to his concerts in the 80s lol.. I would have wished to be 10 years older so I could have gone lol... I didn't get a chance to see him because he died before I could get to see him for the last tour he did. The rest of times I always seemed to be in the wrong country or city when he was near me. Bad timing ... .. but I don't feel like less of a fan... his career started and ended just before my birthday in both instances so .. April has special significance for me...

I certainly don't. I've long discussions about Prince, his output, his mindset during different eras. The mistakes I think he made, and the successes and right moves. I've played his music for countless people.

And when he died, I got the usual barage of messages from friends. But then I got this one, from a girl I've probably not seen since high school (and I graduated the year Parade came out).

It is strange the things we remember sometimes… When my sister messaged me this morning and said she had heard that Prince had died, I immediately Googled it and it was so early, there wasn’t even reliable news stories published yet.

I sat there for about 30 seconds and thought it can’t be …

Then I was quickly taken back to US Grant… I believe our Senior year. It was Mrs. Fuller’s English class. We sat over by the wall. I remember how much you loved Prince. You spoke about him and his music nearly everyday.

When I finally heard that indeed it was true, Prince had died, I knew how completely devastated you would be.

All this to say, my thoughts are with you

So no, I dont feel like less of a fan. If people saw that in me back then, then I know I'm doing just fine paying respect through the years.

No way. Life happened. Prince himself had periods in his life when he didn't listen much to others because he was too busy with his own music. At least he said so.

I'm fine with most of my choices in life. Where they didn't hurt others of course. I made my decisions concerning Prince for the right reasons and I try to do the same now. Which is harder as his death hit hard. But it will be good in the end.

No. I had no interest in seeing certain tours. And after downloading boots from those tours, I'm perfectly fine with my decision.

He got plenty of money from me. That, I also have no regrets over. Except maybe 1999 The New Master.

Disagree.

This sounds like alot of excuses.

Too poor.

Too busy.

Too far.

Too many responsibilities. Come On.

Its ridiculous and really weak.

It actually IS a different kind of love and drive that gets you there and takes you back at all costs, in my opinon. (Unless you are deployed, for example, but even that wouldn't be constant.)

man i hope you're kidding. what you want me to do go rip people off just to follow prince around. like i said, you're guy's money situation is not my business but I look at other people and it just boggles my mind how they can be so lazy and unprofessional and still skate through life with abundance. I have to fight and sweat and work my ass off for every dollar so I don't understand how some people just have such entitled and spoiled lives. One thing I don't do, is beat myself up over not being like that, that's just fucking foolish and a skewed view of priorities. I try to be a good person, leave motherfuckers alone and be kind to my friends. I don't worry about the rich folk no more.
