The fact that he stayed true to himself. He did what he wanted to do- lived the life that he wanted to live and dare I say it.. chose how he wanted to go.... the soul we knew in the body called Prince has found its way back home and one day we may meet him again if that's our destiny. I'm just glad I got to enjoy him while I am here....

The music. How hard he worked. I loved that he stayed true to himself. His smile, eyes, style.

Whenever I think of Prince, I will always be taken back to that night at the Charlotte Coliseum, April 24, 1980, when I had the opportunity to witness greatness: watching him open for Rick James during the infamous "Fire It Up" tour, back when few people even knew who Prince was. From that moment onward, I went around telling anyone who would listen about this phenomenal musician who I knew would someday become a legend, even when there were so many others who felt quite the contrary about this rather strange dude who would strip right down to his underwear while masturbating microphones live on stage. I am forever grateful to have had that experience in my lifetime, to have caught Prince in the infancy of his long and storied career. That night will always be what I will remember most about Prince.

That's the era that I first discovered Prince also. My first exposure to him was the "American Bandstand" appearance and I was immediately attracted to his "in your face" boldness. He looked gay as hell and didn't hide it, but flaunted it. He didn't fit the typical image of a weak sissy either. He could outrock the hardest rocker and outfunk the hardest funker and do it while looking gay as hell just to piss them off even more. Hell, another favorite of mine, Rick, found that out firsthand and never got over it. I bet Heaven is threatening to throw him out right about now for all the cussing he probably did when Prince arrived up there. lol

For me, unfortunately, it's a mixed bag of memories.

One tends to remember the stuff that happenned most recently. Mediocre albums, antagonistic relationships with fan sites, awkward T.V. Appearances (minus the SNL one), etc.

Prince was an artist who constantly exceeded expectations in the 80s, but constantly dissapointed thereafter.

It dissapointed me that he ended his career on a down note, being marginalized to only his most devoted fans, and lip-service from musicians "in-the-know ", but ultimately when his vault materials is released he will become a far more interesting figure.

Genius material mixed with utter crap--and so much of it. Honestly, it makes him far more interesting than MJ, Whitney, Madonna or any of the other dead artists he's compared to.

I will remember is pure talent. To me, he was like Jimi Hendrix, my Elvis, my John Lennon were to others in their era. I personally think he was the most talented musician ever. If not for his talent then for his uniqueness.

His openness about sexuality through his music which helped me a lot especially since I grew up in a very conservative family.

lol THAT and his music for sure!

His music and his sense of humor are the only things that helped me lately. Makes me feel less depressed about his passing

Since my mom died, I have refused to focus on the serious and hard moments and when I miss her so much it hurts, I start picturing her own form of shade she could throw at me and various family members. I picture her facial expressions and her way of saying things and just start cracking up. When I feel so bad that I never saw Prince live and never will, I just go find his shade moments on youtube or look at Prince memes that have funny captions that I can just hear him saying and do the same thing. Just start laughing. It really does help.

His love of performing. It just gleamed off him when he was on stage. It made me feel so alive just watching him.

Yes. Prince's concerts were so magnificent. After going to see him 'Live', I would just walk around in a daze for a long time afterwards. Nothing and no one could compare to him. biggrin

Also, seeing him after shows to grab a chat. The whole experience- so loved up.

Seriously. Not musically, but Prince was like the most punk rock motherfucker ever. He changed his name to a god damn symbol.

I like Johnny Rotten, Billy Idol. Prince was definitely in the same category of people I looked up to.
