Only happened once for me

According to wikipedia it happened on October 10, 1997.

It was my 2nd time seeing him live, but when he started the solo to Purple Rain.

I was blinded by bright purple stage lights and felt something shoot through my body that I had never felt before. It was hard to explain, but was almost like a religious, emotional & sexual experience all at the same time.

I'm not so sure straight men are supposed to feel this, but I felt like I was being made love to from the inside out. (is that possible?)

Have you ever been listening to a great piece of music and felt a chill run up your spine? Or goosebumps tickle your arms and shoulders?

The experience is called frisson (pronounced free-sawn), a French term meaning “aesthetic chills,” and it feels like waves of pleasure running all over your skin. Some researchers have even dubbed it a “skin orgasm.”

….

Results from the personality test showed that the listeners who experienced frisson also scored high for a personality trait called Openness to Experience.

Studies have shown that people who possess this trait have unusually active imaginations, appreciate beauty and nature, seek out new experiences, often reflect deeply on their feelings, and love variety in life.

Some aspects of this trait are inherently emotional (loving variety, appreciating beauty), and others are cognitive (imagination, intellectual curiosity).

I think there are a lot of people here who are very open to experience.

I’ve been listening to Prince almost non-stop since his passing and one of the things I’ve noticed is how many times I’ve physically reacted to the music.

I’d be listening to a song and my ears would burn or my hands would tingle (whenever I feel great emotion, I start feeling it in my hands) or the hair on the back of my neck would stand up.

A lot of people on r/frisson mention Prince’s Radiohead “Creep” cover, the 2007 Superbowl performance and his solo on “My Guitar Gently Weeps” at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as frisson inducing performances. I think we can name a lot more.

One Prince song that does it for me is “Adore.” Another is “The Beautiful Ones.” Which ones do it for you?

Which Prince songs, performances, albums induce frisson in you?

The while my guitar gently weeps does that to me too and 7 at the moment

Too many to name obviously but the first thing that came to mind today was the first time I saw the "Sign O The Times" movie when Prince had all the band walk on stage playing drums and Cat is seen dancing through Sheila E's drumsticks while he is singing "oh wee oh ohhhh". I was like Prince is one bad mother....well you know. Whew that still gets me after all these years.

Damn.

I think that kind of experience transcends categories and logic though.

I have had this feeling in the past listening to him and seeing him in concert.
I have also had these awesome "chills" going up my arms and thru my body this week, so this post is

very intersting to me.

Getting these frisson feelings differ depending on the songs, I always find Prince's voice, his instrumental abilities and arrangements so moving.

But I got the chills this week from listening to a live version of

Sometimes It Snows In April (think from 2009)?

Also, from his Empty Room live performance at Montreux in 2009.

And from Forever In My Life performance from SOTT concert film in 1987.

And, strange, but from listening to Paisley Park song this week.

More poignant to me now in light of he is no longer with us on earth and Paisley Park is empty without him!

I think his live performances move me more than this studio recordings.

To me, no artist will ever move me the way Prince does. He is so powerful!

For me it's certain notes he hits on the guitar. You know, when he closed his eyes and threw his head back and let it rip! Damn. biggrin
