My PP trespass confession

Don't judge me.

So back in 1999 I was a backpacker from the UK. As part of that I made my fellow traveller come with me on a pilgrimage to Minneapolis. This was at the time he was doing Saturaday shows at PP for the local fans. Now I wasnt stupid enough to think I would be lucky enough to be there when a show would actually happen. And so it proved. So what did we do instead? Visit First Avenue, Bunkers, oh and slide through the gate at PP and play in the play park outside his apartment. WTF? It was about where the egg is now. Remeber, this was at the time he was in marrying/settle down mode. It was in the Mel B interview. At the time we were also in full backpacker mode. Beards. Unwashed. Bandanas. 23 years old and basically no fear and dumb. Traversing the US using Autodirect I think they were called. Where you deliver cars coast to coast. Awesome. If he was in there at the time watcing us swing on his swing and slide down his slide, he was very restrained, to his credit. He let it happen. We were gone after 20 mins. We werent like that bird who I read hung out the back in the woods, eating rabbits and sheeeit. Anyway, that's my PP tresspass story for your entertainment. What a time. I recommend any self respecting P fan visit Minnaeapolis at some point, whether they make PP a museum or not. That place is intertwined with his very existence

Thanks for sharing that story! I'd like to think he was in there watching you and laughing.

I remember some of the crazier stuff we used to do back in the day. LOL I'd have been in there with you for sure!

Thanks for sharing.

That fan that camped out in the woods and survived by hunting rabbits. Is that a myth or did it really happen?
Baby, you're a star.

Love it! I would of loved 2 go on the swing too lol I was green with envy when Controversy mag/Eileen Murton & some UK bods went in the early 90's.

Loved your little story, thanks for sharing it. That bit in bold made me laugh. I used to backpack a lot in the States and remembered some friends of mine doing those car deliveries... I never made it to Minni though, but one day I will, it's never too late. I once met a 90 year-old-female backpacker in Boston, travelling on her own, she was ever so alert climbing up on top of the bunk bed in the hostel, and telling a lot of anecdotes to us the baby travellers... Good on you for daring, it's great to live life to the fullest.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm glad you got to make such a memory. I agree with what a few others already said - I'd like to imagine he saw you there that day and got a kick out of it, and smiled. smile

ETA: Ok something was confusing me so I just did a very quick Google of old AMP posts and..was Lou 'JoeyCoco' on AMP? Because I'd remembered it as being JoeyCoco who "moved that tape" and indeed that's who I found referenced about it on those old posts. But I didn't actually know anybody on AMP to know their real names, so maybe it was the same guy.

I must confess... I took a plastic leaf off a fake tree from inside Paisley Park as a souvenier back at the 2002 Celebration. I think it might be from one of the trees on the SOTT cover.

I can't believe how generous Prince was to hold those events at his personal space. And the fact that one day for a short time, he let people wander into the private part of the building. We joke about how he hated us fans, but signs point to how much he really appreciated and loved them in many ways.

That is what being in your teens/early twenties is all about. party It probably brought back good memories for P of his more carefree days. It sounds like he had some great times with his band in the early days before it all became so serious.

I don't remember, I couldn't stand the guy when he regularly picked fights on AMP, but I do remember him defending himself -- probably there, not here (that's where the "I wasn't stealing it, I was just 'moving it' to another room" excuse surfaced).
