Unlike most artists past their prime and heyday, Prince mattered until the very end. You could argue that his last great hit was TMBGITW in 1994 but he still toured in arenas, had sold out shows, released great music (albeit splattered onto various albums and no longer as cohesively as in the past), did the greatest Superbowl halftime show of all times, kept on improving his skills as a live musician, and played gigs in his later years that are right up there with his best shows and aftershows in his 80s glory days , for example Montreux 2009, Melkweeg in Amsterdam, the Paradiso in Amsterdam, the tours with 3rd Eye Girl, the Piano and a Microphone tour.....etc. etc. etc. - - Keep in mind that he was too busy dealing with other stuff (WB battle, ownership of the masters, all kinds of other things) so the focus was probably no longer on making hits (in a time where making hits is no longer what it used to be, with Payola and Clear Channel and whatnot). . But to say that his last great moment that mattered was the assless pants moment in 1991 is just ridiculous. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! . . No, no, no. I knew some of you would mention the Super Bowl, but let's be honest, EVERYBODY who plays the Super Bowl is talked about the next few days. My God, a dancer wearing a goofy shark costume was the talk of the nation after Katy Perry did the Super Bowl. Prince talk after the Super Bowl was just par for the course with that gig. . No, the last time there was buzz and talk about Prince was because of those ass pants. Twenty-five years ago. Nothing since then.

From the moment he was born to the day of his death, from now till all infinity/eternity he will matter. Yes PRINCE'S life mattered. Again, we are not talking about a one hit wonder, or someone who had glib, superficial charm. Nope leave that to the biebers, timberlakes, thicks of this world.
We are talking about the greatest artist to ever live on this planet and as far as I'm concerned any planet. His contributions, talent, drive, sheer determination, intellect and passion are inestimable. But even if that were true, you have left out what others have mentioned here about the Superbowl performance, the 2004 Grammys, the blistering solo at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for George Harrison, and a host of other things. 3121, many tracks off of Lotusflow3r ("Valentina" and "ol' Skool Company" spring to mind), HitNRun 1&2, ad nauseum ad infinitum. Folks who already made up their mind about something to the point they think that's the universal truth. This is the reason I lurked until 21/4 happened and couldn't handle the grief anymore.  And then there are org cannon song interpretations that extend into P's life & P's associates' lives. Yes, "Mountains" was Prince's last great song. Yes, those ass cheek pants was the last time Prince mattered to the public. Yes, Prince was a fool for removing himself from youtube and for releasing download only albums. Yes, "Hypno Paradise" is one of Prince's top ten greatest songs of all time. Yes, the album "Come" is better than the album "Sign O' The Times." . I am a real Prince fan. Probably the only one here. I speak truth. Unafraid to say things that may be deemed unpopular.
