Oh man thank you Kristy for posting this thread. I am obsessed with Electric Chair and the SNL performance. Everything about it just like you stated, his hair his clothes his moves his sexiness. Prince always sounds awesome live, sometimes makes the songs sound better live than recorded. I cant get enough of this performance. And I love these pix too! On same wavelength! I may be wrong, but I believe this was a one-off guest appearance for Patrice Rushen, who Prince wrote "I Feel For You" and "I Wanna Be Your Lover" for. (link)

I think prince loved this look himself , when you look good, you feel good And I think it came across in this performance and can someone tell me why he has to be singing about going to the electric chair for his thoughts yet he thinks its ok to make the women have thoughts ? Lol

I remember when this show came on in the late Summer 1989 and was jumping thinking that Electric Chair was going to be the next single from Batman.
One of his top TV performances in my opinion.

Yup it's pretty bad ass. And he did not even have to jump around and do splits and all of that. I liked when he performed those moves, but in this SNL performance, it's the music that is so funky with the guitar, man! And his attitude he was feeling good looking good. One of my favorite performances of his, he was electric! ...It would have been incredible if Electric Chair was in the Nude tour setlist.

Performers need to watch it because it teaches how to put on a show, You would be suprise how many people can sing but can't emote on stage Prince was triple bless with that

One of my absoulte favorites!!! Not only does he sound and look amazing but he's so playful. He looks really happy. And his dancing is so smooth. His personality in this vid is so similar to the lovesexy era because he seems so playful and free. <3

There's a major error in the PrinceVault write-up, which says the appearance was on the 10th Anniversary show of SNL (1989).
SNL came on in 1974; this would have been SNL's 15th Anniversary. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Yyyeeesss, he could rock that long hair like nobody's business. I am glad to hear others feel the same way about this song it's not a popular one. He works it out with his performance, as always. We all have excellent taste!

SNL came on in 1974; this would have been SNL's 15th Anniversary. Not to b nitpicky but SNL premiered in 1975, not 1974 "Almost all art is trying to become an anaesthetic and at the same time a healing session drawing up the magical electrics.”

I saw this video the first time somewhere in the last few weeks. You know, after....
It struck me as being al lot better then the original recording.
Love it! | |

. Correct! My typo. So if this was 1989, it was a 14th anniversary of SNL?
There's a wikipedia entry that ticks Prince off for "musical guest" AND "cameo". Cameo? When? what?

So glad to see this tribute in HD (mainly 4 “Party Up” & “Electric Chair”). What’s really appreciated is that each appearance is in full version (from introduction). Tribute from Jimmy Fallon is really moving. Captured in my vault. Since our Prince passed away, many old stuff were broadcasted as the way SNL did, we had Nulle Part Ailleurs from French TV Canal + & Today Show (slightly cut though).
