Why I love Prince: he knew it was all for God.

Some have said it was all for girls.
Some have said it as all for fame.
Some have said it was all for money.
Some have said it was all for love.
Some have said it was all for control.
Some have said it was all for social causes.
Some have said it was all about the music.

All the concerts, the mentoring, the encouraging, the discipline and hard work, the being available, the being a friend...
And even the fun.

It was all for God.
He knew that. And that is why I admire him so much.
It is why I respect him.

Rest in Peace, Prince. Your job was well done.

Yes, this is the most admiring thing to me about Prince. To come so far from where he was in the beginning, not only to believe so strongly, but to try to live his life accordingly. Even if he slipped up sometimes. Which we all do, hence Jesus. The fact that he tried to live his life for the Lord in the midst of all that fame.. He's my hero..

I like this post. biggrin It was always his connection to the spirtual world and how he valued God that I thought was so attractive and set him apart from so many other artists. It was very interesting in reviewing his life how he went from spiritual to more structured religion over his lifespan but how he blended sexuality with it all....but also how he managed the darkest sides of human nature that fame encouraged like money, lust, power, image....I'm not a deeply religious person but I am very spiritual my belief in God/Heaven/the Devil is strong and Prince's life was a facinating study in how someone navigated the human experience how his strong belief in God can really add tremendous value to someone's life.

I agree. Although I don't adhere to any strict religion, I believe in God and I believe there are many outlets to express your belief in God and music is one of the strongest outlets where you can express that. Not for nothing, but his music, especially his Lovesexy album, made me find God again and for that I'll be forever thankful.

I found the story of how Lovesexy was created and the spiritual epifinay he had to scrap the Black Album in favor of Lovesexy one of the best Prince stories ever. He was so gutsy!

Altho I do believe he was trying to get there, I still found quite a bit of hypocrisy in his music, especially the earlier stuff. He sang about God in the same songs that included profanity and lewd content. Not that I necessarily have an issue with that personally, it just seems contradictory. Just sayin.

OMG Are you saying that profanity and faith are mutually exclusive? He was always very religious, too much for my taste, but it was never, as I see it, hypocrisy.

Yes, Prince was strong in his faith in God, and I loved that about him. Yes, he was "nasty" in the beginning lol but even then, he still expressed his love of God. It was the same with Whitney Houston, she may have had a drug problem, but that woman let everyone know of her love for the Lord. No matter what either of them were going through in their lives, they never wavered in their love for God, and I loved that about them both.

Anybody that loves him can feel it, he was a man of God. I think this is why it hurts so much.

admission is easy, just say U believe, then come 2 this place in your heart.

Great Post.

.

Until his passing I hadn't put his entire career, choices, etc. in perspective like I have now.

.

I personally believe he somehow had a "calling".

.

I wouldn't have been into a Christian rock artist 30 years ago, nor would a lot of others I assume, and if he composed/performed only religious tunes he wouldn't have been the superstar he turned out to be and wouldn't have had this large "audience" to hear his messages.

.

In the beginning he shocked us and gained attention and fame with raw sex appeal, dirty lyrics and costumes, etc., all the while somehow managing to include references to God and his faith.

.

He let us know God was all around and not only for the super religious; that you can have faults, make poor choices, etc. and still be worthy of God.

.

I think he did just what he set out to do, and that gives me peace.

Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

Even the slurping sounds in "Come"?

Even when he made the Revolution come into the recording studio the night of Bobby Z's wedding reception?

Prince's musical genius was the gravity that kept people in his orbit. I doubt much else.

I agree with everything everyone has said, as someone who attends church all the time, and believes in God, I do believe the gifts that we receive come from God, and he wants us to use the gifts that He has given us for His glory, and for the glory of His kingdom; and Prince did these things, so that when he saw God, He said, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant." And that is also what I loved about Prince.

Have you seen the sculpture, the Ecstacy of St Teresa. It's basically a sculpture that Bernini made from reading St Teresa's religious experience, an experience where the sensual and spiritual meet. It's imo what Prince was doing with his music, combining the sensual, earthly feelings with the spiritual feelings. I don't find anyting hypocritical about that.
