Aren't We All Sick And Tired Of Hearing The Song "Purple Rain"

.

.

The song played most on the radio after Prince died..."Purple Rain." Various artists doing their tributes in concert..."Purple Rain." Watched BET Awards...someone sings "Purple Rain."

.

I've had enough. The song is a mid-level Prince song. My God, it is the sixth best song on the PURPLE RAIN album...and that album only has nine songs!

.

"I Would Die 4 U"

"Let's Go Crazy"

"Take Me With U"

"When Doves Cry"

"Computer Blue"

"Purple Rain"

"The Beautiful Ones"

"Darling Nikki"

"Baby, I'm A Star"

.

Look at that! The song Prince is most famous for is actually the sixth worst song on the album it is from!. And if we want to count all of the released Prince songs, I can name 427 songs that are better than "Purple Rain."

.

Man, unfortunately "Purple Rain" is the song that will forever be most associated with Prince. "Purple Rain" is like the Britney Spears song "Hit Me Baby One More Time." She can't escape that one, and Prince even in death can't get away from "Purple Rain."

In your opinion. cool

I don't think it's the song he's most famous for, actually. I would say that title probably goes to "When Doves Cry".

However, ballads are obviously more suitable for covers and tributes to someone's life than more uptempo songs are. So that's why.

I'm not and never will be sick of the song. However, I don't really like it when people cover it. Because most of them oversing it, and they miss the subtlety.

The irony of it is that it's easy to cover, but difficult to cover well.

Yeah, I agree. I suppose it was alright when Bruce Springsteen played Purple Rain; I can't really imagine him doing Housequake, but overall, yeah, this song has been played to death. I also hate it when the media call him "the Purple Rain superstar".

Not necessarily tired of the song, just tired of people ruining it by singing it.

I'm only sick and tired of hearing other people slaughter it. (Jennifer Hudson, in particular.)

Yeah this song is pretty much becoming the "Thriller" of Prince songs. and I thought LGC/WDC get's overplayed the most since I don't really hear PR on the radio like...ever.

It's without question his most popular song. There are so many people who only know of PR. So it's understandable that it's the song that would be in heavy rotation and the go-to song that other artists would cover.

But yeah, I wish other songs were played more to balance things out. I could listen to 17 days all day. lol

Yup, wish there were more balance in the Prince songs that are played. The guy had sooooo much brilliant material. Let's be honest, is there one Beatles song that is the go to song for cover versions or radio play? No. The Prince catalogue should be treated similarly.

I've said before that Bruce's version was the only one I ever want to hear. I was immediately tired of everyone covering it right after he died. SICK of it. There's hundreds of songs, and that is the one everyone is butchering? Stevie Wonder fucks it up every time he sings it. When I watched Bruce do it, it was just perfect enough that I thought "Yep, that's the only one I care about".

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

not sick of it because i don't listen to it. the only time i hear it is if there's a performance of it on a boot that i'm listening to for the first time; and i 'll listen in the context of the show. otherwise, i've not felt compelled to listen to it.

i'd suggest choosing not to listen to it if you're sick of it...free will and all that.

Kinda sick of reading your whining.

Don't you have something better to do?

and if you think "take me with you" is above Purple Rain, Darling Nikkie and the Beautiful Ones....you are the one with the problem.

I would like to hear Gold played over Purple Rain. Purple Rain was his launching to mega star and his curse in a way.

I don't listen to radio or most popular media so I haven't been inundated with it since his passing. Other than the BET tribute (& a few sports shows playing it to honor him), I haven't heard it.

I never tire of hearing it. The most played around here before and after he passed was/is Little Red Corvette with Let's Go Crazy being in 2nd place.

I could listen to Prince sing it all day but I am sick of people acting like it was his only song, especially in the UK. Over here it's like PR, Kiss, 1999, and f-ing sinead O'connor!

Yes, being most associated with that legendary (grammy award winning) song, (grammy award winning) album, and (academy award winning) movie is super unfortunate.......

That track is perfect. absolutely perfect.

I like hearing it in the UK because you hear P so infrequently here that it is a nice suprise to be reminded that there are a lot of us who care (we haven't had chance to get sick of it). No-one else should sing it though. I've not heard a good cover yet - but I might be slightly biased.

Purple Rain is like a good gospel song; if you are feeling it, you never tire of hearing it when it's sung in that vein. When someone like say, Jennifer Hudson sings it and sings it like she's in church, it's like a whole new experience of the song.

Uhh, "Achy Breaky Heart," a bad haircut, and horrendous wardrobe are what catapulted Billy Ray Cyrus to fame. You think he still wants to be associated with that mess?

I thought it was cool just because it was Bruce doing it; just shows how respected and loved Prince is. But I'm not a huge Bruce fan overall so it didn't really move me.

I'm sick of out of touch people crying in different posts under different names about how others sing his songs.I think its good to come out of your own box sometimes and see what else the world has to offer............Purple rain is his anthem.Others may sing it but,i dont think anyone has ever recorded it again. Now with that being said i hope stevie wonder finally sings it at the family tribute. Then its left alone.Even i would go to change.org or whatever and request that the estate NOT allow it borrowed EVER again.Thats what someone did with happy birthday for awhile. But,the estate wont do that because its going to be their biggest money maker.

It is probably Prince's only song that the majority of people know. But I would love to hear "Delirious" or some other bouncy tune make the rounds. "I Wanna Be Your Lover" - how can you not get up and dance to that one? The one good thing - a silver lining if you could call it that - is that "1999" will continue to be played on New Year's Eve FOREVER!!!!! Or as long as we are all here.
