Is there ANYONE who can do a decent cover of Prince's "Adore"? I've been racking my brain trying to think of who could cover "Adore" without embarrassing him or herself. Any thoughts on the matter? |

Why does anyone need to cover it at all? Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

You're right. I think he might be able to pull it off. |

You have heard of tributes, right TrivialPursuit? I'm just wondering because, although it is one of P's most popular and beautiful ballads, it has been noticeably absent from most of the recent Prince tributes, including the BET Awards tribute tonight. Alicia Keys attempted to sing it during BET's 2010 tribute to Prince, but even she could not hit the high notes. |

There are just some songs that should be left alone.

But the same could be said for "Purple Rain" or "The Beautiful Ones," no? Perhaps, it's just too soon... |

NOPE, that's why Maxwell backed outta that shit. They need to leave Adore ALONE
Was Maxwell initially supposed to sing Adore, instead of Nothing Compares 2 U? Or do you mean D'Angelo, who could have probably done Adore justice, but who was a no-show for the tribute? |

Yes, Alicia did it on BET. Even she couldn't hit those high notes, though. Perhaps it was due to her pregnancy. |

No.
What would be Prince's best cover?
That is one of those songs that could just be better appreciated as is on the album.

No. And they all just need to stop - now. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

I understand the sentiment; however, I respectfully disagree. I just think that "Adore" is too beautiful a song not to be sung. Just like Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" is the brook of fire through which few great singers have successfully traversed, so is "Adore." But they continue to try...because they know that it is a song that can make or break their careers. It's like, why do you climb a mountain? Because it's there...it's the pinnacle. |

But like Purple Rain, when heard in it's original form. It is too high of a piece of art to duplicate and you feel satisfied.
I've heard Prince do it on a few shows through the years and it just paled in comparison even when he did it.
I Will Always Love You is originally Dolly Partons' so I don't have an issue with someone else doing that song.
I see what you are saying though. I just think some songs especially by Prince for the most part should be left alone. |

I did hear a Jazz orchestra do a rendition of Batdance that was pretty cool. That is a song that would be hard to hear duplicated, but they did their own touch

Adore should never be touched.
'Decent' would be a travesty. Its too perfect, too beautiful, and if Maxwell backed out of it there was a dman good reason lololol |

Duh!! Dolly Parton wrote it, yes, and she continues to make untold millions from it, but Whitney's is the definitive version. That is undeniable. And even though it is a notoriously intimidating song to sing, every year singers around the world perform it at talent shows and on live competitions like "The Voice." |

They do it out of reverence...and because it is a challenge. Plus, they know that to nail it puts them in a class of elite singers. That is all. |

There is a big damn difference between Whitney performing even the "definitive" version of someone else's song and other people performing what might be Prince's most amazing ballad - a song he wrote and sang. If you don't get that, you don't get anything.
