As many can try as they want...but nearly as many will be put in their place. Adore is damn near untouchable. One would really need to switch it up and probably take it out of fallsetto...as that was done as good as it coulda been in the original. There's not point in simply rehashing it...it would need to be switched up. Best avenue for that is finding a way to pull the emotions off sans falsetto. If u can do that, Uve got a gem.

No one can put the feeling into 'Adore' like Prince can. It's his baby.

There's no song so sacred that it couldn't be covered. If someone did, they'd have to just do it in their on spirit, their own way and not try to sound like Prince. Perhaps even a totally different arrangement. The mistake would be trying to sound like him. [Edited 6/28/16 9:36am]

Chaka did a great job with I Feel for You, although it was the Melle Mel rap that set it apart. Chaka happy....real happy. Me'lissa Morgan did well with Do Me Baby. Sinead did her thang, even Tom. Even TLC made Get It Up sound TLC-ish They all put their on spin and personalities in to the cover. Non of them were trying to out do Prince.

Bilal did that cover better than anyone could have. The physical aspect was a bit much, as no guy can do the Prince thing and look cool doing it, but on the vocals and the feelings, he was on point. Vocally I agree Bilal did the purple justice But The Kid owns the overall performance of The Beautiful Ones right down to the floor moves Adore is on another level Not sure I want to hear anyone else sing that besides Prince Some of his songs are unique to him Do Me Baby is another untouchable

It goes without saying that NO ONE can sing Adore like Prince, not even close. But that doesn't mean no one should sing them. And, you must not have heard Meli'sa Morgan's cover of Do Me Baby, which Prince must have approved, no? Here is the video.

[Edited 6/27/16 17:11pm] My favourite cover - her voice is perfect for this and I have no idea why she wasn't a bigger star - check out this live performance from a few years back - the crowd is louder than her - there is a lot of love for this song :luv:

It's also true that most of them did it in their own spirit (or at least tried to), but some covers just wrecked the original. Sinead's version of Nothing Compares was better than the Family's (which was too weak and too flat imo), but was not as good as Prince's final take. 'Liberate My Mind'

I do think that way about all of his song. Really. I love Prince covers, not Prince covers. I would rather hear Prince sing The Itsy Bitsy Spider than hear JHud sing Purple Rain. What?

No one. Please leave that song alone. And, while you're at it, don't do Purple Rain either. Everything else is cool.

"Scared?" Now I'm envisioning a frightened song being covered by a blanket and hugged.
But yes, there are no songs so sacred they can't be covered. If songs are to survive and thrive, they not only have to be listened to, they have to be performed. And that means people have to cover them eventually, as Prince the performer recedes and gives way to Prince the composer.
One of my relatives was a singer who composed her own songs. She has been gone for over a decade. Her songs survive because people sing them, not so much because she recorded them or they somehow found their way onto a music streaming service. (Instant tears when I found her catalog there that way.)
That Joe Kelly cover was competent, but not frisson inducing.

A choir of angels. Maybe. "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15
