cool to read. also makes it seem like it was a lot more of an actual album project and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Great article, made me happy and sad at the same time. A reminder that he retained ALL of his talent and abilities right until the end .

I'm really glad they did this, and for this album. It's not a "classic Prince album," but it was important to him, and it was his last. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Awesome article. Such a great album, I'm pleased the hard work that goes into any album is being recognised. .

I really love this album. I don't think it sounds like throwayas at all. To me, it's very cohesive, and it's the kind of album I had been hoping to hear from Prince in a while. I also feel like it fits well with Judith Hill's album.

That was really great - now they just gotta go back and do every single other album!

Great read. The one thing Prince never gave us was the story behind his songs, where they came from, how they were recorded and so on. This is as close as we'll get now. Thank you.

I think this article backs my theory that Michael Nelson is Prince's greatest collaborator since Claire Fisher's 80s work. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Thanks for the link, TollyC. My fav quote from article is from Ledisi "I don’t like to talk about him as if he’s gone. I feel like Prince is still here I’m not done letting him go"

the hit n run name has more meaning he is no longer here. he hit us..... and ran...
in a sense.
i love how in his last 4 records..... he split many of his influences up....
to make consistently strong songs in a full genre style.
not fusing as much as throughout his career.
that's what i appreciate about those 4 last records.

This article made me wonder what the very last song he ever recorded was. Not "released". Recorded.

That is a good question. MonoNeon posted a clip of a song that he says was his last recording with Prince, Kirk, and Adrian and that was in Feb. 2016. I would imagine that there was something later than that though. TRUE BLUE

Wonderful style of article. Something similar needs to be done for many of the albums where we don't have many details about the recording process. Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

Beautifully written article - a must read.
This part stuck out to me:
"Miles Marshall Lewis: Like everyone else I just underestimated how much he was in pain. I was aware that he had some kind of hip surgery some years ago and that he wasn’t doing the splits that he used to do now that he was in his mid 50s. But I never thought it would be drugs. I’m still in shock. Prince had his ways. He liked to be in control. I’m willing to entertain all conspiracy theories. Because that wasn’t the Prince we knew." Singing 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' in elementary school was too much fun!

Loved how the article touched on how brilliant and fluid he was in developing the arrangements. The results led to a fantastic album with superb arrangements. I have been shocked that the response here has been rather tepid. To me, it is amazing that he could still put out such great music after so many albums and what he was going through personally. The last three songs make an especially vital sequence!
