Ok, because the way it's filmed it looks like something he had to have sanctioned. How in the world did it get out? It's just so personal.

Actually, by the looks of it, this is just "The Undertaker" and "The Sacrifice of Victor" compiled on to one DVD. Those were both official releases but never released on DVD. So somebody has just made a bootleg that consists of the two official releases spliced together.

That's an unofficial release combining two officially released VHS tapes.

The last song on the symbol album was "the sacrifice of victor". The last line is "my name will be victor" Then when he announced that he was going to change his name (about the time of the video) the media speculated that he would change it to Victor.

They were released officially on laserdisc weren't they? Those were already rare.

I have both these laserdiscs. The digital audio on the UNdertaker laserdisc is superb. I often put it on just to crank up the best rendition of Bambi that Prince ever did - guitar work that ranks up there with the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame guitar performance.

The last song on the symbol album was "the sacrifice of victor". The last line is "my name will be victor" Then when he announced that he was going to change his name (about the time of the video) the media speculated that he would change it to Victor.

There are a few references throughout the album to his 'name':

Segue II

V: "So why are you giving me an interview?"
P: "Because I want U... 2 tell the truth."
V: "Oh - well, I will if you will. For example, the first song of your opera... why don't you tell me your real name?"
P: "My name... is Victor."

The symmetry of having "My Name Is Prince" being the first line of the first song & "My Name Is Victor" being the last line of the last song (as lust mentioned above):

The Sacrifice of Victor

I've got 2 keep on walkin' down this road

When I reach my destination

My name will be Victor

Plus the way the symbol glyph can be split into stylised letters that spell Victor:

Oohh... I would fly over to you to digitize right off the laser discs and deinterlace that to make a master copy. Unless of course they start to put out DVD's of this NTSC stuff.

I always took it as a metaphor for the idea that Prince's music is intoxicating, like a drug.

To make things more confusing, Prince says 'My name isn't Prince' and right then u have the credit "Prince" appearing on screen falloff

Originally the show was aired on MTV in early 1994 and back then (I saw it) the symbol appeared instead of "Prince". The original limited release of The Undertaker in 1993 was also credited to the symbol. For some reason when they finally got released by WB in 1995, Prince had both The Undertaker and TSOV credits changed to "Prince" instead of the symbol (maybe he decided to do so because he gave the shows away to WB; or maybe WB forced him to do it because they feared the name Prince would boost sales, IDK).

This "Sacrifice Of The Undertaker" dvd was originally released by Ladybird years ago, and used rips from the Japanese Laserdiscs. Not the best release because iirc there were volume issues, which meant you had to turn up your tv to hear them.

During the song "Sacrifice of victor" there is a line where Prince says "And she called me by the name of Victor" - in the background as Prince says that line Tony M can be heard saying "You mean like n**ger"?

I have both of the LaserDiscs as well here in Toronto. I love watching them on my industrial Pioneer LD player. I transferred them 2 DVD several years ago so I can play them on the big screen at my Purplelectricity Prince Party because it beats hauling the LaserDisc player 2 the party (although I used 2 do that in the early days of the party!). I also have the SOTT Japanese LaserDisc and the Livesexy PAL European LaserDisc (my player is dual region so I can enjoy it here); I burnt the latter 2 DVD as well...

Well, The volume issue lay with Ladybird, not the actual Laserdisc's which are fine.

I totally love that vomit sound, particularly when listening to it (as opposed to watching). Everytime I was listening to it with someone in the room no one of course saw it coming and whomever was there had a major WTFwasthat? look on their faces, absolutely pri-ce-less lol lol lol

It was thought for video but it SUPER works on audio (as does the whole intro, the visuals aren't really necessary).

yeahthat I couldn't agree more. From Batman on, there was one thing or another that made you go WTF?

I mean, Batman in general. I still can't believe that happened. Can you imagine his music placed in any of the films from the Nolan trilogy?

I'm feeling a new thread coming on. Was going to start with Graffiti Bridge, but most of that record is terrible and what's the sense of just talking shit about every record.
