If Prince never insisted on signing the 100 mil contract.. Several people including Alan Leeds warned him. He let his ego get the best of him. How do you think his career would have been if that contract never went into place? i think i want ya |

You could even go back further to the construction of Paisley Park. As fruitful and liberating as it was, the costs associated with keeping it running had to be astronomical. Throw in an artist not overly concerned with radio hits, and after several carefree years you find yourself in a need for $$. Thus the $100M contract.

After Prince passed away, there was a "round-table" interview of people he did business with in the 80s, and they said it cost $2.5 million PER MONTH to maintain/run PP in its heyday. And that he really didn't care about the money since so much was coming in. Fa st forward to the 90s, and the money dried up and he had some real financial challenges. Apparently, he would go out on tour to bring in the money to pay the bills.

Yeah I beleve that too. I may be wrong, but i kind of feel like that's why he was still trying to do some dates now, while knowing that he was sick. Just trying to make money to meet his current obligations. He was really rich on paper but cash on hand could have possibly been low. Just speculation. |

If you believe the rumors, Paisley Park was running on a skeleton crew when Prince died. No security. No real employees besides his cook and assistant.

Yes! This is also a factor... Prince was not really fullfilling his duties as an A&R man.
