People can say whatever they wanna say about Prince and Under The Cherry Moon but you can't talk shit about his fashion sense, IMO. Prince looked fly as fuck in UTCM "I was here in the beginning and I'll be here forever more"

* Wow..."racial BS"? Why does it bother you so much anytime someone discusses Prince as an African American in the context of racism endured by African Americans? Why do you want people to think that Prince was not concerned with the issues suffered by African Americans when he was clearly concerned about these issues? As for preferring to be in Lavax, Prince also wanted to March, wanted to quote MLK and be Emancipated, wanted us to Be Moved when black babies made the grade and still didn't get the job, wanted us to understand the racism of Abraham Lincoln, and many more issues about which wrote that were directly related to the specific plight of African Americans. Was this all "racial BS" when Prince, as an African American, was addressing issues specific to African Americans? Prince was Camille, but he was also the guy who wrote "Radical Man: 2045," "Uncle Sam," "The Work, Pt. 1," "Dreamer," and "Family Name." So, it seems that Prince was equally, if not more, concerned with this "racial BS" as you put it.

The writer is clearly not an academic writer as he can't differentiate between gay and camp. . Maybe he should read up on cinema history before writing his article. .

What in hell are you talking about? dude please.
As I said in a previous post, there were other non(Black) entertainers dressed in full make up and boas and such and never considered gay.
+ U didn't think he should have done the show with a European woman anyway.
U just wasted a whole post. I'm just skimming through because your comments having absolutely nothing to do with what I'm refering to. Keep it on topic, Christopher Tracy is NOT the gayest black character of the 80s
Racial BS, get it?
Did you even read the article?

This story haunts me. I tell it in hopes to make it your problem too. I am a filmmaker who is queer, biracial, Jewish, Rasta, black, yet fully versed in cinema history, I want to ruin all your cinematic experiences going forward as they have been ruined for me. ‘Cause this is what watching gay characters and gay films is like when you’re not white – bereft. And it has scant to do with dreck like Mannequin. In cinema, all the gays are boys, and all the boys are white. None are black. In other words, Prince in Under the Cherry Moon is the gayest black character of the ’80s, and in context of that film, he’s heterosexual.

How is it about a gay guy where he's banging white chicks the whole movie....even Mary's mom? There's the bath scene but nothing went below the waterline...I don't get it.

Right, I understand the author of the article in connection with hidden gay characters in movies. But Under the Cherry Moon is not it. Christopher nor Tricky.

I remember when this movie came out,a friend saw it and asked me "were Prince and Jerome supposed to be lovers"? It's clear that some people didn't really "get" the strong friendship between Christopher and Tricky.I think alot of people also didn't understand the campiness and humor in this film.

I might agree with a metrosexual argument, as passé as that word is...the flick seemed forward in that fashion for its time...but the amigos were very pussy centric.

* Yeah, player, I read the article and your post, which focused on the issue of "race" when you said "racial BS." You didn't say "sexuality BS" but "racial BS," which indicates you are focused as much, if not more, on the "racial" element as the "sexuality" element. If you were so focused on the "sexuality" aspect, why didn’t you say "sexuality BS?" Additionally, your Lavax comment is also about "race" as you inferred in a previous thread. At least, I've never read you mention Lavax during a discussion about sexuality. If so, please send me a link to when you mentioned Lavax regarding sexuality and not race. The time that I remember you mentioning Lavax was when you wanted to assert that Prince was never concerned with issues specific to the African-American community. So, your entire "racial BS" comment was more of your ongoing desire to present Prince as a non-African American or to present him as a "special" Negro not connected to the African American community and its specific concerns as you have done in other threads. So, yes, I read the article and your "racial BS" and Lavax comment.

#1 the article about about Christopher Tracy being the gayest black character. I called it racial BS #2 I choose to use those songs just to make fun of Prince running away from the BS #3 I'm not a player #4 stop trying to hijack this discussion #5 you read too much into shit, back up, this is not about music #7 ...the fact that you are still stewing about a different discussion a month ago...

* 1. Why did you focus on the "racial" element rather than the "sexuality"? If the "sexuality" element was the focus, you could have called it "sexuality BS" rather than "racial BS," but you chose to focus on "race." * 2. You have never used Lavax in any other context other than showing that Prince was not interested in specific issues related to the African-American community. You've never used Lavax to discuss sexuality so your use of it, so far, has always implied a focus on race not sexuality. That's the history of "your" use of the song. * 3. I don't like being call dude, so what up player? * 4. Not trying to hijack this discussion, just commented on your statement of "racial BS" when you could have focused on "sexuality BS." If you wanted to keep the focus on "sexuality," you would have written "sexuality BS." * 5. Don't get mad at me because your words speak for themselves. * 6. Then, you should have said "sexuality BS." * 7. Nope, not stewing at all about a different conversation, just pointing out that with almost every post you make it somehow turns into a way to separate Prince from the African-American community or to infer that Prince's music or legacy has nothing to do with African-American history, struggle, or legacy. I'm hardly mad. In fact, I just like calling you on it because it's fun and hilarious to see to what lengths you go to perpetuate your fantasy of Prince as a non-African American. * 8. Really?...I bet you were up all night thinking of that comeback :^)

there is nothing about the article that actually discusses Prince/Christopher Tracy Jerome/Tricky in the movie...
So is he just pandering by using Prince's passing to get attention for his article?

* That's nice, but you still haven't shown a post where you referenced Lavax at any other time than when asserting that Prince was never really concerned with issues specific to the African-American community. That is--when you use Lavax as a metaphor or a reference point, it seems to be when you are attempting to show that Prince never really had any interest in connecting with the African-American community. So, don't get bent out of shape with me 'cause I called you on your "racial BS." * Yes, other than Prince and Jerome, there are hardly any black people in Under the Cherry Moon of any real significance other than backdrop or stock characters. So, you can post your pics again, but they will all be of backdrop and stock characters. Of course, that may be fine with you because you seem to want a world in which black people are merely backdrop and stock characters. Thus, when you compare two black primary characters with other white primary characters, such as Mary, her father, her mother, Katy, Ms. Wellington, two of the Jaded Three, and the police inspector, then the point stands that there are barely any black people in the film of any real consequence. * You are lying. I never said that Prince should not have had a white woman as his love interest. I said that it sent a negative message/image about black beauty for Prince, as an African American, to create a film in which two African-American men chase a white woman for an hour and a half and then have his character scared into honesty by a black woman. If you are going to recount what I’ve said, at least tell the truth. See, unlike you, I don’t have a problem standing behind what I’ve said/written. * I simply noted that if you were so focused about the issue of "sexuality" you would have said "sexuality BS," but instead you said "racial BS." Again, don't be mad at me because your words speak clearly for you. * Peace player.

Biggest closet case of the lot, used homophobia all the time to cover up his own bisexuality. I mean Delirious and Raw are full of gay hating jokes (Fags can't look at me, 24 hour fag watch). Once he was caught having sex with a transexual, Eddie was forced to stop acting like Zip Coon in his movie and do anodyne crap that has killed off his career. . I used to love EM, but now realise he is just another stereotype (In this case the Steppin Fetchit type coon), has to be streetwise and foulmouthed and shuck and jive for de white man. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

thing is the author never really said anything about Christopher Tracy, the article doesn't make sense and probably just using Prince death at this time to get attention.
the MJ thread will be back just too many requests of moderation to deal with at once.
And white's educated to non have probably taken homophobia to the world. not Blacks or Polynesians or Hawaiians or New Guineans or Ugandians
