Greatest album never released?

What do you consider the greatest album that Prince never released? OR...Alternate configuration/ version of a released album.

For me, it would probably be Dream Factory. Because it was the Revolution at their creative peak, and it was their most collaborative effort. SOTT is amazing and may be my favorite album, and yet I think DF could have topped it.

There are no known track lists for Roadhouse Garden. How is it your favourite?

Am guessing it will be great because it's with the revolution and someone in his former band/associates said it was great so am hoping and guessing they are right. If it even gets a release. So you right i should of said this in my first comment.

When Prince was working the Gold and Come albums, he had a lot of songs that where club mix. Man, if the Versace Mix is any indication, then Come would have been a dance club riot. So, I say the lost mixes between those two albums.

...I'm leaving my pants on cause I'm kinda going with someone...

I too would love to have both dream factory and roadhouse garden because I love the 83-87 period the most. I have heard two configurations of dream factory and if they r close to what would have been released then I'll go with that until roadhouse is leaked...which I find unlikely any time soon.

This is believed to be (a part of) the tracklist:

Roadhouse Garden
Witness 4 The Prosecution
Splash
All My Dreams
In A Large Room With No Light
Empty Room
Wonderful Ass
'Liberate My Mind'

Aren't some of these dream factory alternates or out takes ?

I agree with the sentiment on this - Roadhouse Garden is a Revolution album we all wanted to hear when it was brought to attention with Kurt Loder (among other places). I don't have to know the track list to know I'd wanna hear it. And if the two songs we do know of are any indication, it would have been a great album.

We've heard pretty much everything from that record, and I'd argue that Sign O The Times is still better, because it feels more focused. The same goes for Crystal Ball. They're both wonderful hodge podges of music, but SOTT did come out being superior, at least. lol

I really think the greatest Prince album has probably yet to be released. There are things we don't even know about, or have an inkling of, that are sitting there, and might see the light of day, and send us to places we've never been before.

Yes. All My Dreams appeared on Charade for instance.
I also believe there are a lot of tracks that were issued under a different title after some minor alterations/remixes of the original recordings. Some were written years earlier before release (or no release). And then there are those who are simply not interesting enough to be released. The fact they weren't has mostly a good reason: lack of quality.

Rave (89) - Great tracklist.

The Dawn (93) - This would have been an absolute monster of an album.

PrinceVault.com Said:
The Dawn
is an unreleased album by SymbolSmallerBlue.png, and was worked on in late 1993 for possible release in 1994. The triple-album combined tracks which had been previously included on 1993 configurations of Come, along with tracks that would later be released on The Gold Experience and Chaos And Disorder along with various NPG Operator segues, although the exact tracklist is not known.

Given Prince's history of using the term "the dawn" as a milestone or a finishing point (often writing "May U live 2 see the dawn" at the end of album or movie credits), it appeared that he viewed this as an important piece of work; his magnum opus (in the same way he has often used the term "the grand progression". It is possible, although unverified, that The Dawn, in one form or another, is a project Prince continues to return to over time; after the tracks included on this album were released, SymbolSmallerBlue.png worked on another album titled The Dawn in 1996 and 1997 (see here for details).

Tracks that may have been included on the album include Come, Endorphinmachine, Space, Pheromone, Loose!, Papa, Dark, Dolphin, Poem, Race, Strays Of The World, What's My Name, Interactive, Solo, Zannalee, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, Now, Ripopgodazippa, Shy, Gold, Strawberries, 319, Billy Jack Bitch, Chaos And Disorder, Right The Wrong, Acknowledge Me, Listen 2 The Rhythm (later renamed The Rhythm Of Your ♥), Hide The Bone, Love 4 1 Another (later renamed New World) and Days Of Wild.

Other tracks not included on any configuration of Come, The Gold Experience or Chaos And Disorder that may have been considered for inclusion here include Dream, Laurianne, Dance Of Desperation, I Wanna Be Held 2 Night, Emotional Crucifixion, The Ride, Poorgoo, Calhoun Square, It's About That Walk, Slave 2 The Funk.

Given that SymbolSmallerBlue.png worked on the album following the release of The Hits / The B-Sides compilations, it is likely that Pope was not included. All tracks listed here are speculative, however.

Beautiful Strange (98/99) : Because I want to hear Prince's version of this:

"They say as a child I appeared a little bit wild
With all my crazy ideas
But I knew what was happenin', I knew I was a genius
What's so strange when you know that you're a wizard at three?
I knew that this was meant to be"

Might just be the best Prince lyric he never wrote.

Uhhh, you realize Charade was a bootleg of Parade outtakes, right?

Not true at all. There are plenty of great songs Prince never released, some of which we've heard. Others of which he's mentioned. "I didn't always give the record company the best songs". Not all of Prince's outtakes from a record are lesser quality.

I know and that's not what I said or at least didn't mean to say. There's more than enough greatness that was never released. But enough material that just wasn't good enough. In my opinion. Matters of taste is never a matter of true or not true.

Err what "4 disc version"? Sign O The Times evolved out of The Dream Factory double LP, the Camille single LP, the Crystal Ball triple LP.

It was the triple LP Crystal Ball that Prince presented to Warners and had to cut it down to a double LP that because SOTT.

So not sure where you got the 4 discs from?
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

true. i'm glad we got SOTT eventually and all. but as far as a concise, hard hitting,
truly spectacular funkyfied prince album, CAMILLE is the best there is. it takes no
prisoners. it just destroys the whole damn city and moves on falloff
