Should friends protect Prince's privacy? Since Prince's death, several of his friends (Van Jones, Demaris, etc.) have commented on Twitter or wherever that they are protecting his privacy (like this from Demaris: https://twitter.com/Damar...1085883392 ).

The problem about sharing info is it will fall into the hands of the tabloids. There's simply no way to keep it excusively for fans. Also if he wished to keep certain things private they should respect that. It's difficult because I understand the reasons for wanting to know but I think the only info we as fans are going to get is the cause of death...the overdose and that's it. We have to find a way to accept that and move i guess. It would help if someone confirmed WHY he was on such strong painkillers though. Baby, you're a star.

I agree there's no way that info could be shared only with fans and no one else. I guess I was thinking more about the option of people who know some things about Prince's personal struggles sharing that info publicly (I suppose I really don't care what tabloids say one way or the other -- their job is to sell salacious stuff and that's what they'll do).

Personally, as much as i THINK I want to know about the days, hours and minutes leading up to his passing, I know I DON'T. When the death certificate was release and they listed his clothing he had on, I lost it. It's too much. It was HIS life. He GIFTED us with his talent. Yes, we as consumers, fans, FAMS, friends etc, helped him to achieve his status but ultimately, he owes us nothing anymore. We know what IMMEDIATELY caused his death. knowing WHO he got it from, how long he'd been using them, WHY he needed them, etc doesn't bring him back. He himself said he would celebrate the day he left this earth. He knew when his time was up, his job here was finished. He is no longer in pain and I would like to think, completely at peace now.

without going into details.. maybe parts of his battle with pain can possibly help save another person's life. and I'm sure Prince would want his experience to do that.

It feels like we know him and feel connected through the decades of sharing his artistry with us which makes this so hard to understand. It seems like privacy in some way can create situations where there's the fear of what people may think or say....it seems like that's what feeds the gossip and tabloids. I don't think most people really want the specifics but do want to know more that's been put out there in the news or tabloids. I'm comforted by the fact that those that have been impacted by his life and gifts have not let his passing be dismissed as just an addict overdosing. My hope is that he knew to the core that he was truely loved and supported. Whatever the situation was it will never diminish the love and respect we have for our "friend"

I think they should absolutely guard Prince's privacy; although, I doubt that Jones and Demaris know anything substantive about his health.

Yes they should respect his privacy. Fans have no right to know anything he didn't want them to know. Paisley Park is in your heart

Absolutely they should respect his wishes. . At this point, I don't think I'd feel empowered by knowing all the ins and outs of either his private life or his health issues. . As much as we think we knew him, he remained an enigma until the end and I'm more than happy for the enigma to continue beyond his death. . Actually, saying that, sometimes enigmas lead to crazy-assed conspiracies which I also think do damage to his legacy. . I'm only a fan. I didn't know him. I knew his music, intimately, but he didn't owe me anything. I'm devastated he's gone, but I still get an odd satisfaction of STILL not knowing the man. .

I think they should, everyone close to him should because really what's the point of any information regarding what he was going through if it's not coming directly from him? Anyone could say anything desperate to prove how close he was to them & so on- without his input we'll never truly know. He didn't speak on it when he was alive so I personally don't need anyone else to speak for him now. Fans are just that- fans, he might have called us friends but we shouldn't take that too literally.
The only thing now is the police investigation which should be discussed by the police when necessary. Even the sheriff spoke about wanting to protect Prince's privacy. If friends, collaborators or employees feel the need to talk about private things we should question why they feel the need to do it in public & take everything with a pinch of salt. Everyone should keep celebrating, keep remembering the things that brought us joy, keep dancing & make sure everyone knows he was a lot more than Purple Rain!!!

I've studied lots of great men, eventually everyone tells there side of the story. Everyone involved in Elvis' life has told everything they know and a good many got a book deal out of the relationship. When the dust settles and these people want a little cash they'll talk. sad but true.

I wish everyone completely respects his privacy - 100%. Unfortunately I know that will not happen, especially in this day and age.

None of us really know if he was in pain or if he was, from what. Even those close to him, like Judith Hill, said he mever seemed to be in pain or expressed he was in pain. She, like others close to him, have said they heard he was, but saw no signs themselves. This is one of the oddest celebrity deaths of our era. Even the description of his near death experience was weird. He's sitting there eating and talking normally and the next minute he's virtually dead. [Edited 6/22/16 7:55am]

Judith didn't reveal anything we didn't really already know. She shared her experience of it. All it did was explain to me why she was having such a rough time of it particularly. If Prince had lived, he likely would not have heard anything more about the plane incident other than it being attributed to the flu. I doubt we would know if he was in treatment. But all of that is out there now anyway. I don't see any harm done to anyone.
Besides, privacy after death is more about protecting the living family of the deceased. I don't see how what people are revealing (like Judith) is hurtful to them in anyway.

I agree. I don't see how she's said anything we didn't already know and, as you mention, she's told her experience of it. She hasn't shared any gory details or anything that might be humiliating towards prince at all.

Agree. She shared her own experience and she has every right to do that, and it's fine. I appreciate her doing so.

I appreciate Judith Hill's accounts of that flight and give many of us that much needed closure in our grieving process. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

if confidentiality agreements terminate upon death, then I think we will eventually see tell all books. That man must have ordered blank gag orders in bulk.

The only reason i see to keep secrets would be if something like AIDS was happening. I can see them not wanting to release that (but it will get out anyways).
Otherwise, they are harming his legacy by not speaking out on his pain, his medical conditions etc. Because if they don't speak up, the gossip rumor continues....he's already looked upon as another musician who overdosed on drugs by the general public (ho hum).
We (his true fans) are willing to do the work to uphold his legacy, but his friends are giving us no ammunition to fight with by keeping quiet. Speculation gets us nowhere. Prince was about THE TRUTH, and there is only one truth, so go runtellthat. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

This ^^ A few days after P's passing a friend of my husband's had stopped at our house. I was watching video's of P on my phone and the first thing the guy said was "didn't he die of AIDS?" I simply said the cause of death isn't released but that is most likely not true. Although people no matter what are going to continue to spread untrue "facts" like the National Inquirer, people who did not follow him and believe that will not know any different if they don't really follow true worthy news channels, magazines, etc. I'm not a human

On social media it seems like prince's manager some Kiran girl dragged Judith..also Damaris did also hint that she's protecting his privacy and also Dr funkenberry also stated there was a split with the old prince camp and the new prince camp and it needs to stop.. so there's something afoot.. None of them really knew prince because they didn't know. I think Kirk knew though
