Prince Musical With Unheard Songs Could Hit Broadway

http://www.billboard.com/...t-broadway

Koppelman reportedly said one of the places some of that music could end up is a jukebox-style Broadway musical or, in a similar vein as the Michael Jackson: One Cirque du Soleil show or the Beatles LOVE spectacular, as a Cirque musical. "Prince was an icon on the level of The Beatles and Michael Jackson, and his legacy should be honored," Koppelman added. "Though his name was Prince, I always thought he was the king of music." No specific plans had been revealed at press time...

How do you feel orgers? Could it be great or a mess?

I just think of it as another sign he's really gone and it makes me sad. Every time I hear his music, I think, "Why are you dead?" My brain keeps churning out WWPD scenarios, and I actually cross checked concert dates with places I lived in to reassure myself that I really couldn't have made those concerts. I didn't do that for other artists.

What will be, will be. It will never be the same in Prince world without Prince anyhow. If they have any sense they will draft in some genuine Prince fans that can look at things with common sense. My vote would be the Peach and Black guys. I kid you not.

At the risk of being blasphemous, these guys could put Prince music in the forefront of pop culture more so than Prince ever could. Let's face it, he lived In a world of chaos and disorder...everything he did was sporadic. Now, there will be focus on the music. I personally love the idea of a Cirque show.

Screw broadway, we need unreleased stuff to hit the wrecka stow.

If this is their 'initial' idea, they need to be fired.

Get Altanta Piano & Mic out people, the last Prince concert ever will sell more than a ridiculous musical. Shoot, they could do both, and even sell the CD at the theater to capture more sales, but a musical alone, and as the first use of vault music? Wow.

I would actually be game for this depending on what the story is. I mean this is pretty much what P was doing with GlamSlam Ulysses. And then I'm sure we'd also get a cast recording album with hopefully a disc two with the original Prince tracks. Shit, I'm excited just thinking about it.

A Prince show on Broadway COULD be incredible. Some of those broadway shows are absolutely marvelous. Some... not so much. But, if its a big hit, and then tours the country, that would be awesome, and could easily run (on broadway and tour) for several years.

Come to mention it, broadway is probably a place where you can find a suitable voice to portray Prince. Broadway showcases some absolute vocal beasts.

I've always felt that Purple Rain should be turned into a Broadway musical.I like the idea of Prince's music being used this way, keeping it alive for future generations.

If it leads to soundtrack albums of unreleased tracks being released more quickly than they would be if the shows didn't exist then I'm all for it, but I don't particularly care about the idea in of itself. I suppose it if raises money for the estate to pay the tax bill that's a positive.

All of this depends on the right people being involved. Just like with the vault. Who's going to be able to pick out the gems vs the duds? Let's face it when you recorded as much as Prince did there's going to be good and bad stuff. I know Jimmy Jam said he wanted to do it but is he the right person?

It's all subjective though, gems are duds for some, duds are gems for others, this is why it all just needs to be released, and the listeners can make that determination. Having two people decide what would be deemed acceptable to the masses is counter intuitive imo.
