Paisley Park - how did it get that name? I always thought that Paisley Park the song was named after the studio. So where did the song get the name Paisley Park? | |

The inclusion of the Paisley element most likely stems from the early '80s Paisley Underground movement of 1960s/psychedelia influenced bands - of which The Bangles (Manic Monday) & The Three O'Clock (Neon Telephone) were associated members. Around the time of ATWIAD and while Paisley Park studio was being built, Prince seems to have developed an affinity for Paisley pattern not just as a sartorial element, but also as totem of sorts onto which he projected associations; much as he did previously with purple, which was much more than just a colour to him in the previous era. Paisley Park as described in the song appears to be an attempt to outline his own idea of utopia -real or conceptual/internal- where love, acceptance, forgiveness and most of all freedom can be found: There aren't any rules in Paisley Park... | |
