Hear Unreleased Music From Prince

Prince's vaults are said to contain hundreds of hours of unreleased music, but some unheard instrumentals managed to slip out of Paisley Park after debuting at Versace's menswear presentation at Milan Fashion Week.

In an interview with Billboard, fashion designer Donatella Versace, who considered Prince one of her closest friends, revealed that Prince had been sending her never-before-heard music for years before she paid tribute to the singer by featuring it in her most recent runway show.

"Prince was always writing and recording, even if it was just a late-night jam at Paisley Park," Versace said. "He had been sending me songs for years – it was his way of communicating. Just hearing his voice again makes me smile." The designer also said that Prince had sent her new music as recently as five months before his April 21st death.

"It was a privilege and an honor to have Prince as my friend, and so it was my privilege to be able to share them with the audience," Versace said of the unreleased music. "I wanted people to hear how playful he was, how joyous, how creative, how pure a genius. The biggest tribute you can pay to him is to play his music, and to keep his memory alive."

Versace's runway mix might not be the only new Prince music fans here in the coming months: The two people tasked with handling the artist's entertainment assets, Charles Koppelman and Prince's longtime lawyer L. Londell McMillan, told Page Six that the vaults could soon start sharing its fruits in the near-future.

"We're going to be having a good time," Koppelman said. "There is so much to be done with this estate. There are vaults full of music."

First music since his passing, love this so much, the brother sure could write for specific purposes, this music is perfect for a fashion show, hypnotic, and a melting pot of sounds, combining rock with arabic undertones, etc. Awesome stuff. Parts of this ,starting 3:35 in, remind me of the original Come, with the really fast synth creating a larger portion of the background.

I would say that since none of the songs on this mix are newer than 2006 this is probably the 2006 mix. There is no third.

This stuff is definitely new (to us), the songs in the mix you are speaking was indeed probably done no later than 2006, but this is all instrumental aside from Prince talking at random parts asking folks to clap for Donatella.

I'm trying to figure this out. There's two versions of this floating around. One has an all instrumental song. The other is a DJ mix of songs that Prince had previosuly done for Versace. Both are the same exact show.

Oh shit, so this stuff is new? I haven't bothered to listen as from the limited description of the stuff played I saw on some music blogs it seemed to be just Versace Experience II stuff, but if it isn't I'll have to check it out.

I am pretty sure the user meant to ask on this thread. I don't think they meant to create a duplicate thread. They obviously used the Google custom search toolbar in the upper right hand corner of every page on this website -- and saw that there was already an article about this, and also saw several that have been locked due to duplicates.

I enjoy it quite a lot. It's new to me, as well. Pointing out that the one I heard seems to be from 2006 isn't "playing" semantics, it's tyring to be factual. If someone said that Arms of Orion was from Purple Rain I would probably correct them. Semantics has nothing to do with it. No diss was intended. I could also be wrong about it being from 2006. I did use the word "probably" in my post. No beef. No queef. Peace and hairgrease.

Someone added the 2006 stuff over the newer music. The instrumental music is the actual music played during this event as you can hear the audience clearly while it is playing.

Not trying to further complicate things, but the Billboard article quotes Donatella Versace as saying "I knew that I wanted to finish on one of my favorite Prince songs, "The Future," because I believe in never looking back."

"The Future" is not included in the new instrumental version, but it is close to the end of the version with music we've heard previously.

I agree it is not likely Prince on guitar, it is not as tight and accurate as Prince's playing would be, there are also very little liberties taken in the playing, and we all know Prince never really adheres to a script when playing, this playing seems very scripted and 2 dimensional. So yeah, probably Donna. Love the music though regardless.

How do you know there is no third?

This instrumental is new to me.

Sounds like a Prince/Josh production with Donna on guitar to me.
