Did Prince surround himself w/young ppl to avoid being challenged?

I've been thinking about the company Prince kept these past few years and, despite how much he said he wanted to teach the younger generation and keep them around because they had the ideas, I also wonder if it was because they'd be less willing to go toe - to - toe with him.

I read past threads about how Boni Boyer, Wendy, and Alan Leeds - for example - would either stand up to him or simply be straight shooters when he asked for opinions. Though I don't know enough to say he had "yes" people, I do think he seemed to want to limit how many people around him dared question him.

i think he just liked young girls wink they are moldable and don't fight back lol and i also think most celebrities (music, acting, etc.) do have ''yes'' men around them its only the ones that appreciate the honesty of the ''i'm gonna tell ya how it is man...'' that really have a chance in life..i don't think you can really live an authentic life if EVERYONE around you is a yes man!

''The beautiful ones they hurt you every tiiiiime....''

yes RIP BEAUTIFUL ONES: Prince & Denise 2016

Not that I know anything about Prince's reasons, but I was recently watching a show which had a man in his 50s in this case a non musician but an author I believe, intelligent wealthy independent, preferred his privacy, insisted on it as a matter of fact, highly demanded but rarely granted interviews and had a reputation for surrounding himself with young women at least. when asked why, he said they are always available. I thought that was an interesting answer one I hadn't expected. Seeing this character gave me a different perspectve on Prince to think about.

I think he liked the youthful mind, the youthful energy, the less jaded look at life, the less cynical attitude, the new ideas, the purer heart, mind, soul.

Incidentally, MJ had stated the same.

Prince might have liked the teacher role, but I don't think it is fair to think that someone who is younger than him could not challenge him.

There are plenty of stories of Prince enjoying and/or respecting people who stood up to him - Candy Dulfer, that woman engineer who wrote he was on his "purple throne" replacing great songs with crap like "get off" (paraphrasing). He listened to Magnoli when he told him that the original story idea for PR was not good - they drove out to a deserted field, Magnoli thought he'd be "disposed of" there, but Prince wanted to talk seriously, and came around to his idea.
There have been other stories.
It depends on which stories you want to believe based on your preconceived belief.

And the previous poster makes a good point that young people are more available - prince likes to work round the clock - but older people have families, need to sleep, etc.

Iirc, Prince stated something to this effect during an interview. It was something about how he liked being around younger people because they didn't think like older people and didn't have the hang ups that older people have.

he once said "I don't have time for old people". I'm sure there were several reasons, young musicians would be hungrier, more malleable, complain a helluva lot less. Then, he always loved having women around him. In some ways I understand, nothing is more irritating than being around a bunch of has beens, especially when they don't even realize it. And it's true that we all lose some fire as we grow older. Young people, if they aren't total smartasses are generally funner to be around and less angry and dissapointed and hurt by life. My own mentor used to say that he hung around young people to stay young himself, he's still alive at 92. There is a dark side to that though, when I was young, I always thought my mentor was selfless, well, it's only older that I see just how selfish he was/is.
