Take Me With U

So this song is one of my top 20 P songs of all time. It hit #25 on the AT40 in early 1985, it is well know by just about anyone who was around in that time, yet it does not appear on any of the 3 greatest hits collections. Any idea why? To me a "hit" is not just about chart position, it's about recognizability. I personally don't know anyone who does not know this song. Yet a song like Money Don't Matter 2night is on the Very Best of Prince album and most people aside from hardcore Prince fans have no knowledge of it. Not a huge deal, but I have always found this very curious.

Its simply a case of too much greatness on one album. Filling a greatest hits collection with all of Purple Rain wouldnt make much sense. I would die 4 u, Purple Rain, Lets Go Crazy and When Doves Cry all charted higher. That said, im with you. It is a clasic track and should be held in very high regard.

(Insert something clever here)

Maybe Prince didn't want to remember how great Purple Rain was? Too many PR songs?

eek It doesn't appear on any ''best of's...'' because its simply not!

.

I would NEVER have imagined that Take Me With U was a top 20 of Prince's, especially not the BEST OF ALL TIME??? Never heard that b4, ever!!!!! First off, Appollonia can't sing..so no, in my opinion, its not close to being the best..HE was amazing of course and its a cute song...but no, i wouldn't put it in my top 20, he should have sang it with a REAL SINGER!!!!!

He played it in concert a lot, so he is acknowledge it for what it's worth.

Yep I was just going to post this. I think this is a great song, one of my faves. Obviously Prince agreed. Also it's a great song to do live because it's one the audience can participate in.

Although Prince would have never admitted it, I think it ranks among his favorite songs of all time. He played it on almost every tour. And he thought so much of it that he analyzed it and decided to add a chord to the bridge. He also rearranged it for live performances. About all he never did with it was play it acoustically or on piano (that I know of).

I will yell at anyone that says "RockAndRollLoveAffair"'s riff is the same as "Take Me With U", right after I finish yelling at the clouds outside my window.

All of that. PR is classic start to finish, and TMWU is just as great sounding now as it was back then.

The snare sound drives me bonkers.
It's too musical, instead of being percussive.
I wonder if the drums are tuned to the key of the song, and if not (likely), that is likely why it grates in my ears
