Older vs Newer

?

I really wanted to hear SOTT just now- I sobbed through the movie last I saw it.
I just stopped myself cuz I was like whoa, that's gonna be hard. I think it was my first Prince tape after I discovered my aunt's tapes, after I got GB which was the newest release at the time- it was SOTT. To me, that's just definitive Prince.
Maybe I need a good cry, it's been a few weeks.

Do you have a harder time playing his new stuff or old stuff in terms of the feels? I can listen to stuff I am not super familiar with but stuff from the first decade I know him- SO MANY EMOTIONS!!! eek
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Probably the older stuff just because it's been part of my life longer.
It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

hug SOTT is so great. It's actually one I an't seem to get around to watching. Maybe the same reason, I know it will cause more waterworks. But I still yearn for it so...I'm crazy cool

I am both sides of that equation. His older songs bring tears to my eyes, like Nothing Compares 2 U (with Rosie), And even though I seem to be watching Purple Rain weekly - it ALWAYS leaves me in tears - and yet I just feel like I need to watch it again. Trying to hold onto him through whatever means I can I think smile

I watched the Musicology tour concert (dvd) - it's the only concert I was ever able to attend - I had to pause it at times, and it really brought tears to my eyes just because I know I'll never have the opportunity to experience him live ever again and that hurts.

That being said, I can listen to upbeat music and I find myself listening to the voice and lyrics way more intently but smiling along with them.

Babysteps I guess.

As for the newer stuff still, I actually listen to them with new appreciation, the inflictions of his voice, the emotion, the arrangement, and I don't feel sad with those ones but happy to have more music to discover/rediscover.

I have more memories of listening to the new music, because I was growing up in the 90's, with my parents listening to his older music, and I heard it from time to time either from cd's my father has, or on the radio, as well as through videos that are shown on t.v. when I was growing up in the 90's. But it has been fun listening to his older and new music to get a better understanding of who he was.
