That can't be right as "Guitar" likely comes from the same sessions as "3121", "Planet Earth", "From the Lotus", "Boom", "Back to the Lotus" etc.

Either way...he showed a film clip for 3121 (which didn't include Guitar) at the launch of Lotusflower (which didn't include Guitar). I'm not complaining about it I just think it's funny, and a very Prince thing to do.

Oh, no I know. I am just saying it kinda makes a little sense and provides maybe a tiny bit of insight into the recording process of 3121. It's entirely possible that "Guitar" was meant for 3121, he felt like it didn't fit - as he so often felt about strong tracks, and decided to use that and "Future Baby Mama" as the flagship songs carrying the rest of Planet Earth.

From the Lotus.. and Back To The Lotus are from the 3121 sessions, correct.
Remember - the version of Guitar that was first released in February 2007, the so-called "demo" version that was put up on 3121.com, had no live drums, it was all drum machines, and sequenced bass loops and synths. It wasn't a live recording, it was a more minimal solo studio recording compared to the "Planet Earth" version. Unquestionably, the live recording on "Planet Earth" is a much superior version. Hence why the original download version gets referred to as a "demo" even though technically it's not. I mean, the download version isn't even really mixed or mastered that well in comparison to the Planet Earth version. |
