Small Club:Still Would Stand All Time

The version of Still Would Stand All Time on Small Club is SO SO amazing. I've been listening to it on repeat for over an hour. It starts great, gets better, and then climaxes with that ridiculously sick guitar solo.

I love when Prince goes, "Who's the fool singing will? It's would!" So funny!

I can't believe he'd call out his fiancé like that.

Love it. I especially love always those ad-libs "always on Monday, sometimes on Tuesday..." etc. Incredible voice.

I also love the first and only live performance of Rave on the same show. That shit is 17 minutes of pure funk!

Me too, and I instantly thought of that line "Whose the fool" and you hear the fool singing "would" loud as in the next chorus lol

.

That whole boot is just incredible, one of my favourites, oh to be a fly on the wall that night. Prince was killing that night, I'll take you there, he sure did.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

That solo... although brief, NEVER ceases to give me goose bumps. His shredding was on another level.

I thought it was Bonnie singing "will". Was it actually Sheila?

Me too. And yeah, best version I've heard of this. And love the version of "Rave" with the live ending from "It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night," and the opening jam. They were on fire. Sheila put a lot of drummers to shame that night.

I'll never know for sure, but I'm sure the 'fool' singing 'will' was my mate Mark. We were a little drunk, and his singing was never the best.

It's an incredibly raw and powerful rendition, a tad meandering and slightly unfinished sounding but still so much better than the overproduced saccharine crap version we got on Graffiti Bridge, because I came comparatively late to Prince I actually heard the Small Club version first through a bootleg site before I heard the Graffiti Bridge one and it was such a disappointment in comparison when I finally got around to the studio rendition.

That's a bit harsh. I quite like the studio version. Obviously it's better live, but then most songs are with Prince.

The studio version is pretty fantastic. Been enjoying Small Club for years now as it has been one of his most popular boots (imo), but it doesn't compare to the studio version.

I also think that We Can Funk in the studio is sexier than any of the other versions. Pretty sure the only problem I have with Graffiti Bridge is Tevin Campbell.

Yeah you're probably right actually, I'm maybe being a tad excessive in my condemnation, it's been a while since I've listened to the audio version, maybe I should give it another go as I have come around recently to some stuff I'd always dismissed, like the The Hits version of Nothing Compares 2 U.

He had a hankering for perfection... wink Reminds me of when, during Electric Intercourse, he snapped, "Wake up, Wendy!" Gets me everytime, especially because it seems like he didn't even flinch... lol

Anyway, I haven't listened to Small Club in forever, thanks for the prompt!
