Crazy, who ever thought Ozzy would outlive him?

ya, who'd have thought ali would have outlived him? Also, I bought graffiti bridge and even though the film is a thorough piece of shit, it's just nice to see him alive and talking. the extra vids were ok too, the live version of question of u is pretty darn good too.

I think the ONA tour was fantastic and the band was very tight. So I enjoy a lot of the songs on this DVD, although the sequencing is pretty poor IMO.

Unfortunately both audio and video quality could have been much better, which takes away somewhat of my viewing pleasure. But still I am grateful to have this DVD and I think it is much better than the Rave DVD which sucked bigtime in my opinion.

Exactly my thoughts!

Just watched Grafitti Bridge for first time in more than 20 years (saw it in the theater originally) to show it to my 11-year-old son. Being braced for it being horrible helped me be less put off by it and also my son liked it so that helped too. And that bonus video of Question of U live is fantastic. Wonderfully show and executed. Love that classic move of sitting behind the piano and then getting on top of it with the guitar. Too cool.

If you've got funk, you've got style.

Having been at the taping 4th row I can tell you the version released did in no way reflect the show that we all witnissed.

Mind blowing perfomancs of Power Fantastic, Days of Wild & many many more did not make the cut.

Maybe one day...

Watched this for the first time in years and although it does not do the amazing One Night Alone Tour justice it certainly has its charms. That tour was one of my favorite Prince experiences and Rainbow Children my favorite latter-years album. And so the versions of 1+1+1 = 3 and Family Name are killer. Fun band too with Sheila, Rhonda and Maceo, and I dig when Prince is the only guitar player. I did not remember that his performance of Sometimes It Snows in April plays over the end credits, so that was gut-wrenching. What do you all think of this DVD?

I loved it just to see family name performed live. That is such a funky Awesome song, and you can hear the Tower of Power influence all throughout it. Um was

As did I. The acoustics in that theatre are top notch. I believe Prince commented on it as well saying one of the best in all the world from his experiences. I miss him.

I enjoyed the DVD but it lacked energy because we never hear or see the audience. I'm not a fan of concert tapings that mute the audience. But the band was great and it showed how versatile Prince was as a musician. I personally preferred the Rave Un2 the Year 2000 DVD.

I don't think the quality is bad at all.there's plenty of bootlegs that are in worse quality .this concert is a lot better than the "Rave un2 the year 2000" concert though

Then you need glasses. Or a tv set that's less than 20 years old. Because the quality is atrocious. Is the quality better than a bootleg that was filmed on someone's iPhone from Z? Well, yes, for the most part. That's not really what we should be comparing it to though, is it?

And as we have higher and higher definition sets, the quality of this release just looks worse and worse with each passing year.

Oooo!!! I just got excited. I ordered the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 DVD from a European distributor 2 weeks ago, and it's on its way.

My initial thought toward the shoddy video quality of the Live at the Alladin DVD was unfavorable. I paid to see it at the movie theater upon its release and thought, WTF? It looked really bad on the big screen. It's just okay on my home HD screen--certainly not the best. Perhaps the show was conceived to be filmed that way. A strange style for an official product, but there's plenty of bootleg video content floating around that people paid money to obtain and Prince may have seen some of it and thought he'd just mimic the style to inject some visual texture to this live show. Then again, heck, maybe he was just being cheap with the thing overall, and his videographers weren't so great. Considering the report of people in attendance at the show, he might have changed the song selection to boost the energy level and desireability of the setlist. My faves here are Pop Life, Gotta Broken Heart Again, Family Name, and Sometimes it Snows in April during the disc credits.

By comparison, my problem with the Rave Un2 the Year 2000 DVD is that it seems to me a tame, prepackaged event. The only spontaneous moments I can see are Lenny Kravitz & Prince trading solos, Pince's own solo on Purple Rain, and maybe some improvosation during the blues set. My favorite parts of the event are Prince playing bass on "Get Off," the Purple Rain solo, blues set, inclusion of "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" video, and in the Special Features, the ad for the abandoned Newfunk Sampling7-CD set. It was interesting to have his Freedom News credos recorded in here, too. I enjoy the graphics setup for the playlist/title screen--think those are hip!

I love it. The tracklist is different enough from ONA Live to justify the extra release, and the 10 mn version of 1+1+1=3 is one of my favorite long Prince jams live alongside A Love Bizarre with Sheila, Beautiful Night from SOTT Live and a few others, that version captures the essence of what funk is about in a way that would make James Brown jealous if u ask me! And U Want Me is a nice extra to have biggrin

My only complaint really is the fact that volume varies between songs, which makes no sense at all. I hardly ever watch it but i've ripped the audio from the DVD and it's irritating as hell to have volume changes between tracks on a single album: I can't figure out what passed thru P's mind when he decided to do this!

Also the directing isn't memorable but since I mostly listen to it I don't really give a damn.

It's pretty amazing that P would release 4 different albums from the ONA tour, he was obviously very proud of it. I hope more soundboards surface: I have a bootleg (that I haven't even had the time to listen to yet) that apparently compiles soundboard tracks from a lot of different shows, but it doesn't seem like the whole shows are in circulation.

According to someone who was there for the soundchecks, the preparation of Rave was quite tense and Prince and the band were not very relaxed, probably the pressure of having one shot at soing it right, added to the frustration Prince probably had at beginning to realize Rave was not going to be anything like D&P in terms of success, contrarily to his initial expectations. The ONA tour seemed to have been done in a much lighter mood.

That's interesting to hear about the Rave taping. I can certainly believe that there was pressure felt by the band.

On a semi-related note, I will forever kick myself for missing the NPG Music Club soundcheck gathering for the one and only ONA concert I attended. A relative of mine was late preparing an Easter holiday dinner I was invited to and I did not want to be a jerk and leave them all behind--made me miss my one shot at a small-group exposure with the man! One tiny consolation is that I was recorded along with the rest of the vocal audience on the "Rainbow Chidren" intro to the One Night Alone...Live! CD. Woo! That was a really exciting show.
