Is changing the title from Jimmis Red House to 'Purple House' too arrogant.

I don't know 'bout you but don't you think this is a bit disrespectful. To me Red House is just about the greatest blues record ever written or recorded and Jimmis playing is awesome. I wonder then how Prince would feel if Santana covered purple rain and called it Spanish rain!. I think that in doing this Prince is slighlty crossing the line, you make a song your own by adding to it such as his recent covers, no doubt that his version will be awesome but renaming a classic is a bit too cocky despite what the Hendrix estate might say.

So you've heard it?

I don't know. I didn't like the Rave2000 version he did.
It dragged on a bit and sounded pretty middle of the road.

If he does a studioversion of it for the JH tribute album
I just hopes he makes it raw and hard like some of the
shows he played during the ONA tour.

I have much doubt that it will be awesome. Four cover songs immediately come to mind. He started playing, "A Case of U", "When Will B Paid", "Everyday Is A Winding Road" and "You're Still the One" live before he recorded them in the studio. It was unbelievable how good these songs sounded and I would get excited for the studio version after I had heard that he recorded one.

Without fail I was completely let down by these songs as they were NOWHERE near as good as the originals. Also, oddly after recording them in the studio he would start performing them to sound more like the studio version which also meant that the live version suffered.
