How do you feel about Prince duets

Is it just me or do you also get annoyed when someone else sings with Prince. Except for background vocals from Lisa / Jill Jones which I think complemented Prince's voice perfectly, I don't really enjoy a lot of Prince duets. What's your opinion on this?

to be honest I am not a fan either - I prefer Nothing Compares 2 U when only HE sings it - but that is just my own thoughts.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

.

I thought "Beautiful, Loved, And Blessed" was fantastic. Best duet in his catalogue.

Funny that you mentioned this, My Mom keeps asking me about a particular duet he has with someone that she heard. I've listed every duet I can think of and she claims it's not the one she heard. I have no clue what song she's talking about lol. But, nah I can do without them. I always find myself thinking "Ok, finish singing so we can get back to Prince" Lol

From now on, 4 U I shall be wild 💜

Funny you said that, shortly after I wrote my post, I remembered this one and felt that it should have been an exclusion... I don't really want to name any names, as I appreciate and respect most singers who have collaborated with Prince, in their own work, but it's basically just the fact that I enjoy hearing Prince so much it feels like the additional voices are taking away the precious Prince's vocals time on the track. And this even more so since he has passed. I hope it makes sense.

Yes, this. And maybe your mum was confused with another artist and it wasn't Prince at all. lol

When you're struggling to think of any, they must not have been very good.

I can think of "U Got The Look" and "Arms Of Orion" and the god awful BLB.

I guess after years of Prince only -- I just didn't want any vocals at all (that includes backing) unless it was Prince.

Even my favorite tracks on 3121 (went over this the other day) -- were the ones where it was ONLY Prince. No backing vox by anyone but him.

Not a big fan of duets, but U Got The Look, U Make My Sun Shine & Love Song are nice imo.

Duets. hmmmm I really can't think of any

outside of what was already mentioned: Arms of Orion, U Got the Look...

Is 1999 a duet of sorts. If so that was perfect -Prince Dez Lisa Jill

was Love Sign (with Nona Gaye) a duet?

Didn't he do a lot of duets on the Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic cd?

4 me the louder the background vocals the less I liked. I love Rosie Gaines solo music, I didn't like her background vocals with Prince.

the 80s had the best background vocals. And were perfect mirrors or shadows of his vocals.
Hello had Jill Jones much louder, and the extended version of Kiss, but those were fantastic.

I was actually including all the unofficial releases, the songs in which he featured in other artists' music, and the live performances as well, so there are quite a few. I really try to like them, but I can't. And yes, I agree with you about the 80's background vocals (they were the best!) and even though I absolutely love most of what Prince has done afterwards, deep down, I still miss the revolution era.

I've never even thought about it - if the song is good, I'm down wit it. smile Nothing Compares w/ Rosie is a gem! Whoever sings with him on "Time" is just enough. Doesn't bother me. But "Beautiful Loved & Blessed" could have stayed in the vault lol it's pretty boring.

heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I think i only liked U Got the Look with Sheena. But like you love Prince to sing on his songs. Add loved the contributions with Wendy & Lisa , Jill Jones, Rosie etc. As anyone mentioned Take Me With U with Apollonia i love that song , i know not many people dig it. And i adore Love Bizarre with Shelia. So i think that is 3 duets i love. biggrin WOW no one esle mentioned Love Bizarre it's funktastic.

Oh ok. My mind cannot grasp all the live stuff lol my coffee hasn't kicked in.

Oh and Take Me With U is beautiful. I've always loved that one. Which in a way is Prince Apollonia (w/Lisa & Jill)

AH Erotic City (w/Sheila E) another great duet.

Love 2 the 9s. I love the song before Tony & Rosie do there part.

Of course, how could I forget! So those are other exceptions then. Guess I didn't really think this through very long. So ok, apart from those... wink
