Thieves in the Temple? Is Prince's Estate Plan Being Suppressed? If Prince really refused to draw up an estate plan--an assertion of which I am not convinced--Londell McMillan (and the whole army of lawyers P. retained over the years) should have been more forceful. Really, I think someone is guilty of malpractice. He/They should have told Prince the horror story of what would happen if he died with no estate plan:
Did no one tell him that story about his entire life's work evaporating? Seriously? And he still refused to draw up an estate plan? Right. It just doesn't make sense, does it? Personally, I believe that Prince's estate plan is being suppressed. Something in the water does not compute.

This might all be part of Prince's plan for all we know. No wife, no kids, no parents. If he himself wasn't going to be here to enjoy his fortune, maybe he just didn't care what happened after he died? I'm being serious too.

I agree with you. I'm so bewildered by this. I held out hope that once the cause of death/death certificate was issued that someone would step forward but now? Wow. It seems that Prince just keeps surprising me in his death. I guess him not having a will is not so surprising - my 90 year old neighbour does not have a will - so why should a 57 year old man? Except for the fact that he had a multimillion dollar music empire that he fought desperately hard for, was notoriously private (creating a private trust would have kept his affairs secret), and a strong philanthropist - did he really not care who profited from his millions once he died??? I find it difficult to accept, like most things about his death

[Edited 6/9/16 20:05pm] [Edited 6/9/16 21:04pm] Everyone keeps underestimating how much PAIN this man was in. Have you ever broken a bone? Do you have arthritis? Have you ever had a joint replaced? Do YOU, dear reader, have your Will done?!? RIP Prince. We will NEVER forget you. Thank you so much.

. no, he does not. his life was a huge success insofar as he accomplished what he set out to accomplish. yours is not a true statement. . here's a true statement: you have no standing to make a comment like that. . you know nothing about whether or not prince left a will/trust/estate plan. this thread is pure speculation yet here you are, tirelessly flogging the downside.

Say, are you familiar with the song "Estate" - if not, check out the version by Joao Gilberto. It's an absolutely beautiful song.

There will be a probate hearing on 6/27, all people claiming to be heirs have to submit their claims by today (6/10), DNA results should come out soon. So there will be a lot of news in the next few months about the estate.

Prince was ANYTHING but stupid. Stupid people don't leave behind VAST estates, the likes of which we have never seen. With even a basic estate plan, over generations, Prince's fortune could be well worth upwards of a billion dollars. His philanthropy could have continued throughout perpetuity. His beautiful, beloved Paisley Park could be a self-sustaining MACHINE. The potential value of his vault, with all the unreleased music, films, and videos, is mind-boggling. Now, we're supposed to believe, after the LONG battle that he fought for his masters, he just left all that, with no plan.
I'm sorry, but I am not buying it. I think there needs to be an investigation and ALL of his lawyers need to be questioned, under oath. Something in the water does not compute. [Edited 6/10/16 7:02am]

Prince was very astute. Even if he didn't care about the money, he DID care about his legacy...and history. Why would he work like a dog for over four decades, only to have his life's work evaporate because of failure to plan? He could have ensured that Paisley Park--his shining INSTITUTION that he built with his blood, sweat, and tears--would survive forever and that his philanthropy would never end. I'll NEVER believe that he died with no estate plan. NEVER.

i've worked in the legal industry for twenty years and suspect that prince retained the services of multiple attorneys in minneapolis. for hypothetical example, he might have had one law firm to handle immigration issues pertaining to his foreign born entertainers, like the twins. and maybe he hired another firm to do assess and reduce his commercial taxes and yet another law firm to address copyright/trademark issues. i wonder if one of those firms might now be defunct, yet has records of his estate plan. if i were handling the estate, i'd make a routine inquiry of all law firms here in minneapolis to see what they all have in their files, if any, pertaining to prince. His attorney could settle this once and for all, just come out and say whether he had one or not. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

What does Prince's pain have to do with his lawyers doing their job?!!? I mean, the man had an ARMY of attorneys, and we're supposed to believe that not one of them could convince him to allow his legal and financial team to draw up an estate plan??? It's insane and I don't believe it for a second.
"Do I have a will?" you ask. How is that relevant? I don't have a BILLION $ estate.

Exactly, but I don't think his estate is motivated to do the search. As it stands presently, they stand to inherit VAST sums of money. I think the courts should conduct an investigation and subpoena EVERY attorney that he ever retained. There is something rotten in Denmark. I can smell it.

I am surprised he doesn't have a will, there's certainly a chance it might have been suppressed, although I see no evidence of that. However, the biggest delusion in this thread is the original poster who seems to think that anyone could convince Prince of anything he didn't already believe in.

sorry for the edits; yes i think that prince left behind instructions of some kind, somewhere. a will can take many forms, and could even have been videotaped. imo that would have been more like prince [Edited 6/10/16 7:21am]

He believed in Paisley Park. He believed in giving. He believed in an artist owning his/her intellectual property. He believed in wills. The third verse of his song "Colonized Mind" is very telling.

Does this sound like a man who couldn't be convinced to leave a will???? I. DON'T. THINK. SO.

mmm, fair point. He wasn't known for being easy to pin down or for being able to sit still or turn up for appointments that weren't about what he was into at that moment though. If he didn't think he was going to die any time soon I can't see someone convincing him to turn up for a dull meeting next wednesday at 9AM when he could be off jamming. The meetings can wait.
