Prince Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction

Alicia Keys induction speech for Prince was okay but I was really jealous listening to Tom Morello induct KISS into the Hall of Fame. I only knew one KISS song but the " impassioned" speech he gave got my attention, and made me wish an artist could have done that for Prince because he damn well deserved it. Am I being too hard on Alicia that night?

Yes, she did a great job. That's why he played her speech every night on the Musicology tour.

I thought she did a good job. Prince on the other hand dedicated his entire acceptance speech to Larry Graham

Yes, you are. Alicia showed mad love and reverence for Prince that night. She might have over done some of the little giggles, for effect, but her words were profound. As she said, "There is only one Prince." From what I've heard, P even played her introduction at some of his concerts.

I was in Cleveland at the Hall of Fame watching the ceremony on closed circuit tv simoulcast. I can say without a doubt Alicia gave THE best induction speech that night. She was awesome!

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

He used it as the intro to the show on the Musicology Tour.

However, Alicia Keys has this attitude about her that really, really puts me off. There's an air of arrogance about her that makes me ill. She's always chuckling to herself, as if there's a bigger punch line going on and only she's in on it. She's not the only Prince fan, and she's certainly not the biggest, nor the first. She thinks she is, but she ain't. I used to dig her early on with the first couple of records, but eventually she just lost me with her smug demeanor.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Bigger question is how the heck did KISS ever make it into the RRHOF? They definitely have some questionable choices. I'd include Joan Jett too since her biggest hits were cover songs.

I didn't hear Tom Morello's induction speech but I have not heard an induction speech close to the passion and the feel of Alicia's. She did a million times better than Outkast. The next best speech goes to Kendrick Lamar for his NWA induction a distant 3rd would be Eminin with his induction of RUN DMC.

There are many kings both real and mythlogical but only one PRINCE!!!!

I think a lot of people walked away from Alicia when she went from homegirl to glamour girl. The transoformation was way to quick.

Beautiful, Loved and Blessed

Thank You Prince

Statements like this remind me that women are judged differently than men. If you saw Big Boi speak that evening, I just can't for the life of me figure out how you could make this thread about Alicia Keys, who gave the best speech of the three.

That said, Morello almost made me rethink KISS razz. Great induction speech.

No, no, no, don't do that. It's not about that. I didn't like any of his induction speeches, but Alicia is the one that stuck out to me as the worst. In my opinion. I honestly think someone older school should have spoke. Carlos Santana would be a great one, or hell even Duff McKagen, or Patti LaBelle, ....there's a long list of better choices.

"There's an air of arrogance about her that makes me ill"..I remember when the "hip hop take out" site raked her over the coals for being a "husband stealer". She's talented but her music does absoloutely nothing for me........and Tom Morello's speech was fantastic.

Yeah, I didn't quite know what to make of Alicia either. She was a bit weird that night, but no worse than anyone else. I mean, it could have been nerves at meeting her idol, Prince, like she was trying not to fangirl right out. biggrin I'mma cut the girl some slack, tho. Maybe a sister had one too many.

Thanks for posting the speech. Since I'm not a KISS fan, it didn't move me to want to listen to Kiss. But I do like Tom Morello and it was a good speech as most suck. He had something prepared, I hate when they try to speak off the cuff. The only difference is that he was hyped and she wasn't.

I like Alicia's because I could relate to what she said about Prince, its still my favorite induction speech.

Beautiful, Loved and Blessed

Thank You Prince
